Wife tested positive for COVID using a home test last night.

She will be going out for a lab test later today.

Because I have been vaccinated, I'm not required by my employer to quarantine due to the exposure. If her lab test comes back positive, I'll get tested at a lab and we'll see how it goes from there.

We were at a large group event (150-200 attendees) last week Thursday through Sunday. She was probably exposed there. She's let them know about her test result.

Hope your wife recovers quickly, Monogodo. And stay well yourself!

As for me, I think I've already griped about losing things....thought my streak was over, but guess not. When out riding with the Wisconscoot group, we stopped at an orchard, and I used my Swiss Army knife to cut off a sample of the apple I was tasting for a friend. Juggling a bag of apples etc, I must have dropped the knife. Contacted the owner, and 3 days later another customer found it! Mailed him a check for $10 for his troubles, got my knife and felt relief.....until it went missing. Again. My best guess is that I had it in a pair of old "work" shorts that I decided to toss. So far it's nowhere to be found.

Now, I've got a small collection of knives already, and a few Swiss Army knockoffs, so it's not like I really needed it, but it's been around for decades, and suddenly I miss it disproportionately...to the point of obsession. At this point of my life I'm not going to run out and buy a new one, but got a consolation knife on eBay which I hope eases the pain.

Geeze, I'm a mess.

I finally got all the papers together for the cretins at my municipal traffic management office.

I hand it all in, only to be told that the process takes ten working days...
... to log on to a database and update an engine number...?!!!

Maybe the person who knows the Log On password is on vacation and won't be back for ten days!

Thanks. Tried to get her a lab test yesterday after work, but no luck. We were able to pick up 8 home test kits, though. She again tested positive. I tested negative. She has an appointment at 9:45 to get a lab test this morning, and an 11am phone appointment with her doctor.

I know how you feel about pocket knives. I have a Swiss Army knife that I've had for over 20 years. It's my favorite one of the half-dozen or so that I have. It has exactly the right tools on it for my daily needs. I hate when I misplace it. I haven't been able to find an exact match to it, although I did recently find one that has a couple of extra tools. That one is too wide, though.

Left my helmet on the hook while I ran in to the roaster to grab some much needed coffee beans.
On putting helmet back on found I was sharing it with a bee. Ouch.

Wait until a wasp flies between your crotch and the seat and then stings you in the nuts in an effort to find a way out.

When I visited the 2012 Olympics in London I realised I'd got my Victorinox on me, so I handed it in to the army chap who was searching folk, who told me I could collect it on the way out.

Comes the end of the day, no army, no knife, they'd shipped out with one extra weapon of mini-destruction!

The Halloween after 9/11, my then-GF/now wife and I went to a Haunted House. They had police outside with metal detectors. When they asked me if I had any weapons, I said that I had a knife, and pulled out my Swiss Army Knife.

The officer laughed, handed me a ziploc baggie, and asked that I put my Driver License and the knife in the bag, and said I could retrieve it on my way out.

He laughed again when I picked up the knife on my way out.

Yeah. Had my original SAK with me when I went to the Milwaukee airport maybe 20 years ago...was in my bag that I also used for local trips. It had way too much sentimental value (plus I'm cheap), I had time before boarding, so told the agent I'd see him in a bit and bolted for my car to leave it there. And I made my flight with plenty of time.

Pissed off update:

Went to help my mother yesterday with leaf clean up...she has a ton of them, but well-armed with a largish mower with a leaf rake.... so I'm buzzing around snatching leaves, on my 4th load, get too close to a brick border and of course it a brick, get unnerved, and, unfortunately I'm on a bit of a slope facing a rock garden on the slope. So, somehow I lose control and go barreling over the rocks and come to a rest-upright-at the bottom of the slope. In the meantime I mowed over a fancy rain gauge, and somehow a pulley popped off the top of the deck. Sat there a few seconds, stunned, then decided to jump off before it blew up and finished my day.

Turns out damage was pretty low...had to buy a new pulley, blades are aligned, but dull, but need sharpening anyway, and the bent deck should be easy to straighten. So mower's fine, but I feel like an idiot. That's slightly better hearing that the relative that came to help last weekend got hung up on a rock and had to pull the mower off with her car. Either this farm is a minefield for mowers, or my mom is stuck with idiots for helpers. I fear the latter.

So, with that final confidence boost, I'm off to work on my scooter tomorrow.

I was probably about 6 or 7 when my grandad gave me my first penknife for me for whittling n stuff!

Just don't do it at age 5.....my grandfather who lived on the farm with us let me play with his pocketknife at around that age...I sliced my thumb, and my mom gave him some words....to which he replied, "he has to learn sometime!"

I come from a long line of great fathers....

I don't feel all that old, but I can remember having a woodcarving class in middle school where we carried these in our back pockets. In fact, we were required to keep track of them ourselves. Like pencils and notebook paper.

It wasn't my grandfather, but my 'cool uncle' who got me my first knife. It rides along in my tool roll.

If my memory serves me correctly, I got it in 1988.

I remember cutting myself 'whittling' (read: stabbing a log), and being more upset that my mom was going to take it away than the bloody mess that was my hand.

I recall back in the mid to late 1960's no one would have even blinked if a kid carried a pocket knife. I know I often did.

I know a guy who when he was in high school I believe in early 2000's and worked on a farm before and after school. They almost refused to let him graduate because one day he forgot he had his knife in his pocket that he used to cut the bailing twines while feeding the cows.

When he got to school like a good kid he reported it to the school office and they had a fit! And this is a school out in the boonies of farm country!

What's pissing me off today? Apparently, bicyclists. Which is odd, me being one and all....
No, it's probably deeper than that. People taking the time to complain about things when actually FIXING that thing would only take some few minutes and moderately more effort than the complaining.

I'm on a local bicycling forum, and today's load of goo was about how inconsiderate cars are (familiar parallels abound ). Apparently (and I'll say, allegedly as it was really windy last night) a car took out a line of those tall orange posts that are intended to divide off a lane for bicyclists. Oh, the umbrage!

I mentioned the minimal issue to fix the post thingies and got lambasted for being somehow against the OP, "pro-car", etc... I guess that makes me "other" to that group.

Anyway, I went out and fixed it myself. Took me 10 minutes; a bit longer than I had estimated. And now, I'll continue on with my happy day.

It got stolen out of a proper garage? Was it locked? That's a rather brazen theft. Does he have any fancy video?

My little condition means that I have to take a monthly blood test for an Oncology Consultant to stroke his beard over the results and then make out a prescription for another month's worth of meds. I can only be trusted with a month's worth it seems.

It takes 7 days to process the blood and they insist that I have a blood test within 7 days of collecting the medication.

If I wait for 7 days before the end of the month to get tested I run out of medication.

Dog,

Here in the USA this is a real money maker. I have to go in annually for a
complete physical to renew my blood pressure pills. I am not playing down
correct medical procedures - but, it is a money maker. Between the blood
test and physical it costs @ $350.00.

Perhaps in the UK, your socialized medicine may not cost you anything?

I've been paying into the NHS since I was 17 via my Income Tax so it's not really free.

The NHS's failing is that it can't think outside of the box even when it would count in their favour.

Exactly this, its easier to wait til you are deaths door rather than be proactive.

Here's a good example of just how wasteful the NHS can be.

Until I pointed it out the fact that I could collect my Meds from my local Oncology Pharmacy they were sending a Same Day Courier from a town 10 miles from my house to a Hospital 20 miles away and then another 30 miles back to my house.

The Courier would invariably arrive at my place after 6.30pm even though I was told I couldn't leave the house just in case he arrived earlier.

They were actually reluctant to stop the service even though I was clearly trying to save them money.

I think you missed a comment Matthew!

Okay, mine wasn't today, but last weekend I was taking a box of scooter parts off of the top of my cabinet, and I knocked a wash bottle off that I'd just purchased for changing brake fluid a few months ago....and, the spout broke off.

TBH, while it was an improvement over dumping directly from the bottle, still wasn't ideal, and I think a small bottle with a spout may be as good or better.....

I was trying to say that I wish that Bill Dogs problems with the healthcare system pale in comparison to mine and I would trade issues,if he were interested.

I don't know why the comment didn't go through.

I know what you mean. My pharmacy is not open on Saturday or Sunday. I take a couple meds that are controlled and require pre-authorization from my primary physician. However they do not refill controlled substances within 3 days of the monthly expiration date. Well the prior authorization is supposed to expire within 48 hours which is when the pharmacist sends in a new prior authorization request. The result is that sometimes I just don't have a couple of my medications to take. It is anxiety provoking to say the least.

I've found a close to perfect Moto Guzzi V7 Racer to buy.

And it's in Scotland.

I'm nowhere near Scotland.

You are likely much closer than I am.

Besides, proximity to Scotland is relative.

Say hi to the Counts of Flanders for me....umm, never mind, too late.

Okay, not today, yesterday, with temps well below normal, Mrs f. wanted to go to the Beyond Monet light show thing (we'd gone to Van Gogh which was pretty interesting). Drive an hour to Milwaukee, and downtown is not unlike Chicago in cold weather. Get a bit discombobulated with some significant construction (besides only having been to that part of downtown once before), wind up parking a good 5 or 6 blocks away. Parking sign showed rates at $2 per hour, which seemed fine....exception being "special events" rate of $25. Lot was nearly empty so hard to imagine any special events going on. Go the machine, which charges us $25. Sigh. Okay, just pay it, it's the big city.....

we take off into thein the cold wind in the general direction of the venue. ...at least the missus had a hoodie. Pass another lot that was the same price...but 3 blocks closer. Get to the front door, look across the street and see a lot (that we probably used a year or so ago), charging $15. At least the wind was at our backs on the way back.
