So I just got my new Carozzo shop jacket today. I tried it on and found (when I stand with my arms at my side) that the elbow armor pads fall towards my wrist and aren't centered on my elbow. It feels like the edge of the pad is at the point of my elbow. Is this normal? Also it seems like there is a bit of wiggle room in the pocket that the pad is in; pehaps I could sew it up a little tighter to keep the pad higher on my arm. Any thoughts?

I guess I should also say that when I put my hands on the handlebars of my scoot the pads seem to be in the right place.

Mine is an XL, and it's the exact same way. I started with an "L" at first, and it fit great standing up. The pads were correctly placed on my elbows, sleeve length was good, etc.

Then I sat down on a scooter.... WRONG.

Sleeves became way too short, it tightened up across my chest, and the pads didn't seem to be in the right place. Trying on the next size up - an XL - corrected all those problems.

As for the little "pocket" that the pad is in, mine is again the same way, but it doesn't bother me, so I've left it alone.

My summer jacket's a small mesh FieldSheer...it fits perfectly (sleeves, torso, etc.), yet when I stand the arm pads slip and my elbows hit towards the edge of the elbow cups / pads. I'm not sure a jacket exists in which the pads stay perfectly in place despite whether you're sitting, standing, riding, doing cartwheels...though I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone pipes up and tells me I'm wrong.

Those jackets are meant to be worn while in the riding position. The elbow pads on mine are too low while standing, but once I'm on the bike, they're exactly where they should be.

I first ordered a mesh jacket on sale. The pads were swimming all over the place and I figured that, if needed, the pads might randomly end up in the right place, or they might not. Not something I wanted to count on. I returned it.

I now have a Fieldsheer "Johnny Cool" mesh jacket. It has adjustable tabs on the sleeves above and below the elbows which keep the elbow pads in place. I am very happy with the jacket. It fits well and is SO much more comfortable than my leather jacket in the 100 plus degree heat we've been having.

IMHO, fit and comfort are very important in safety gear so you will be less tempted to skip wearing them "just this time".

I would want to make sure that the pads were in the right place all the time. When you need them, you certainly don't want them in wrong place. A good fit is essential.

My Joe Rocket Alter Ego has straps on the outside of the arms that I can tighten to keep the armor where it should be. In the event of a get-off the armor if not securely in place can leave the areas that are meant to protected vulnerable.

I think if you are looking for style and protection a combination of the Corazzo jacket supplemented by some Bohn Armor under your street clothes would be ideal.

'same with my mesh. My winter jacket's a bit more rigid and the pads don't slide down as much. I'll just have to 'remember' to keep my arms bent if I fall!

Interesting. Me, too. I just bought an Olympia jacket. It was hard to find one in a woman's size comfortable enough for me, so I ended up with one where the pads slide down along my lower arm, and the shoulder pads make me look like a steroidally biceped monster. The liner is mesh on the outer jacket for coolness.

I decided to take it to an alterations woman at my local cleaners and have her reposition the pockets in the right place. The material is too hard to work on for me. I'll let you know how it works out.

Can anyone tell me if the Corazzo 5.0 jacket is too hot for everyday wear?

The spring and fall here are between 50 - 65 F and the summers can get up to 90 F but are usually around 75 - 80 F.

I'd like to be able to wear armor most of the time.

well I won't say you're wrong.

But I have the Vanson Vet Max and don't have any problem with the elbow pads slipping

I'm comfortable in mine at 80 F, even a little more if moving. This on a sunny day. Standing still in the sun you'll heat up. I have a friend who'll be comfortable riding in his at 90 F, but I get too hot.

It's super comfortable, though. I don't even notice the armor when riding, although I feel like the Iron Giant every time I catch my reflection, especially since mine's grey.

My suggestion, get the 5.0 or something similar. When it's cooler you can close all the vents and layer underneath, when it's warm it breathes pretty well. If you find yourself too uncomfortable in the heat and think it's worth it, get a warm-weather mesh you can wear alone or over/under anything else when the weather turns.

Absolutely.

My friend has a made to measure Lewis Leathers bike jacket and the fit is awkward in a standing up position - a bit too short on the body and sleeves.

Sitting on the bike it's perfect. Shame he hasn't got a bike Razz emoticon

Each manufacturer tailors for a different body type. For example: I find Joe Rocket to tailor to a heavier build than average.

But the armor should stay in place. The jacket should be a snug fit and not loose: if it's loose; then things will shift in a crash which'd defeat the purpose.

jacket fit
hey all

To be able to fit everyone would be a wonderfull thing, every riding apparel company tries to fit everyone as best as they can.

I'm going to try and give my 2 cents worth.

A properly fitting motorcycle / scooter riding jacket should fit while on the bike in the riding position. pads in place and arm lenght/ chest girth snug.

now, to put differnt riding gear into styles or classes is a different thing to take into consideration.

Racing leathers/ textile made by and for those who intend to ride at high speeds, and for longer distances, will be skin tight like a wetsuit. when you stand up they will be uncomfortable, but the pads will not move and will always be in place. these are designed to be worn when ridden and taken off when not on the bike.

city cruising / fashion riding, like a major part of the scootering comunity, want a comfortable jacket to be worn while ridng and hanging out. a little more loose fitting, and relaxed. The pads will shift a bit while not in a riding position, but should fall into place when on the bike. Protected and still not looking like a sportbiker or a harley cruiser

Most importantly, find the most comfortable, function and purpose, oriented style of jacket that you like. try a bunch on, and get the one you want. make sure you will wear it, cuz when it comes down to it, thats what matters,
Be protected.

there are alot of companies out there that make protective riding gear
we just hope you choose ours

Hey Chad~
Hey Chad nice to see ya here.....

Corazzo has a sizing chart that the retailers use to make sure your choosing the right size jacket. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a Scooter shop close to go try one on. So for that reason ask your retailer to guide you through the sizing chart.

I gotta tell ya I am a big fan of Corazzo I have (4) Corazzo's and I love each one of them.

Looking forward to trying on the mesh jacket when its out.
When anyone askes what jacket to get Corazzo is always my answer..
Lucky~

My 2 cents...

I have a Corazzo 5.0 jacket in size small. Fits great. Armor sits where it should in all places. That said, I did want another option for warmer days and wasn't so confident of the full mesh options out there holding up in a crash/fall. Also, I was bored with wearing the same jacket every time I rode but didn't want to spend the extra money on another motorcycle specific jacket(s). So, I got one of these to wear under any jacket:

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Bohn Bodyguard Airtex Shirt

I really like that I can wear it under any jacket and since it's supposed to fit snug, the armor truly stays where it should. Yes, you can't compare just any jacket to the Corazzo 5.0, especially when you consider the Cordura abrasion resistant material used on the 5.0, but I can wear it under a jean jacket, parka or canvas jacket and probably be better protected than wearing any of those jackets without it. In my opinion, I don't think any full mesh jacket out there is any more abrasion resistant than a denim jacket or canvas jacket. Just my opinion. But if you want armor to really fit and sit where it should, I think the Bohn shirt is the better solution.

I have that same one, and it is really comfortable! Dainese jackets fit really well.

I think the sliding/misplaced armor issue comes about with jackets that are a loose fit or where the arms aren't rotated forward in a riding position.

I guess I should have said a long time ago that I decided the XL jacket would work for me. After a week of riding and breaking it in, everything is fine.

...now if only I had a use for the 29 condoms that came with it. Should I wear those while I'm riding? ATG ATT?
