Maybe this has been done before, but I wonder if there is a correlation between scooter size and population density of where you live?
(P.S.--how come the question-mark emoticon doesn't work?)

I live about 20 miles from Asheville, NC in a county that is 2/3 national forest. So, it's small-town USA. I ride almost everywhere I go on my 150.

The area I live in is rural for now and I drive a 250cc GTS. Need it for all those 45 zones where people drive 65. Actually, I could have gone with the GT200. Still, it is only a matter of time before the burbs start encroaching on my region.

In the burbs with a 150cc.
Keep in mind that when I bought my scooter there were only two Vespas available: ET's with either a 50cc or a 150cc motor. Just around the time I purchased, the GT's were just being announced. I didn't think that the extra 50cc's were worth the difference nor the wait and I still believe that. Now if the 250cc's were available at that time...well, I probably would have picked up one of those instead. |

C'mon, we all know size isn't what matters -- it's how you drive the scooter that makes the difference.

Although I don't consider my neighborhood to be anywhere close to resembling "urban", my address is in San Jose (proper). Considering it's the 3rd largest city in CA, I guess I live in a city. My scooter is a 150cc.

Technically, I live in the exurbs. Not quite suburbs, but not country, either. I've got a 250.

150cc ET4, soon to be kitted with Malossi upgrade kit. Currently has hot cam installed. Los Angeles. Short "in the neighborhood" trips (5-10 miles round trip) and longer jaunts on the weekend.

Very interesting, folks!
I suppose I should step up to the plate: I live in the city and have a 150 cc scooter. My first and only. I mostly scoot around on city streets, but may, at some point, commute 13 miles to work. But that would involve highway travel, and I'm not there yet. |

200cc living in what I would call an urban-suburban environment. I live in a downtown area but commute to the suburbs via surface streets (only because I don't really want to ride on the freeway).

I live in a small town (4,000+/-) in a rural area in the country, I guess. Scoot is a 150. Highest speed limit in town proper is 35. South of town, 50. North of town, up to 55. My LX is absolutely perfectly matched to the area.

I live in a city with a population of one million. I live 3 kms from the city.
My daily commute should be a walk, but scooting is more fun. And on weekends there's plenty of vineyards and whatnot to explore in the hills surrounding the city. These rides are usually anything from 100 - 250 kms. |

Sounds like a fun place to scoot.
Looking at the current 91 votes, city and country folk seem about evenly split on scooter size, but suburbanites have a definite preference for big engines. Not that this is scientific study, or anything. |

I'm with Paul on the exurban. I live outside a small town which is outside the normal range of Cleveland suburbs. But I do have a few houses nearby, and I ride through two connected towns to get to work 8.5 miles away. I'm on a kitted 150 most of the time.

I'm in a small town (4000 pop) about 15 mi outside of Cleveland, Ohio. The GTS 250 is plenty nimble around town (and certainly holds more groceries than our vintage bikes). Having those 250cc sure helps on those 50 mph country roads. With the fuel injection I'm getting 70 mpg. It's the best combo scoot out there IMHO.

I live on the suburbial frontier, about two streets over from where the suburbs abruptly end in favor of many miles of middle-of-no-freaking-where. It's fairly peaceful, barring the bats and the zebras. I drive a GT200, and am planning on buying either a 250 or an MP3 in the future.
My first scoot was a Vino 125. I had thought, since I don't mind trundling along at a slower pace, that this would be far more engine than I would need. 40mph would be much safer, too, right, for a novice? Hah. And hah again. I can't count the number of times I nearly became a hood ornament because I was so much slower than the rest of traffic. For the record, I live in Central Texas, and 70mph is pretty much the unwritten rule around here for everywhere but school zones and parking lots. Okay, I'm exaggerating a little. But only a LITTLE. |

What is your scooter size and where do you live?
The westside of Los Angeles is home for me and my LX150. I am fired up that I can ride to work which is approximately six miles round trip My last job was forty-five one way
My MSF Instructor told me I would be wishing for a motorcycle after a month or so on my Scooter, but NO way - I love my scooter. Also just got my topcase...now I have room for all the extra stuff. |

Live in the heart of 1 million. No daily commute as I office from my home. Own 5 cars + 2 Race Cars, but since acquiring our GT 200, I've put 220 miles in total on the cars and 1900+ miles on the scooter... Happy Motoring!... Jim |

I live in the burbs of a small city. I bought the gts as an impluse buy but had I really done my research the 150 would have done me just fine for commuting to work and running round town. But I love roja and the dream of taking longer rides!
