Cindy - I am really sorry to learn about your crash, but glad that you are here to talk about it. You have certainly been a large advocate for Toreador Pants, and it is good to see that it helped. I hope that you heal quickly, and well. Keep us informed on your progress - you have a lot of friends on this forum!

Eventually I figured out that after looking left to start the turn I never looked back to double-check the oncoming traffic. Fortunately I never hit a cyclist or motorcyclist. The cars got beat up but no one was ever injured. That was 40 years ago. To this day I never never never trust anyone turning left until I'm safely past them. Heal well, Cindy. thx I always scan ahead. I saw the car, unfortunatellt she pulled out in front if me at the last second. no time to react. my abs were uselss as i had no time to use them. |

Do whatever you can to get that old lady off the road. The next motorcyclist may not be as lucky as you are.

FWIW, here is one tip I 've picked up that seems to work w/ potential LH turners:
You can sometimes get an indication of that driver's intent: wheel turned to the L, maybe slowly moving, as if they are making their move. When I approach anyone making a LH turn, I cover the brakes and sway the bike back 'n forth (easier on a scoot than moto), this helps the driver see me. Just as it is hard for astronomers to see bodies approaching head-on, so it is with bikes. The small amount of movement tends to make you more visible. I have seen cars stop, turn their wheels straight when I use this technique. $0.002, \\osc |

Glad to hear you are in one piece, and I hope not too much pain.
My thoughts are with you. |

The headlight modulator is a great idea. I usually flash my lights about 5 or 6 times when approaching a left turner to try and hopefully get their attention.

Cindy, I'm curious why you said you were glad you weren't on your Vespa. Is it because you would have hated to wreck it or do you feel your injuries would have been worse had you been riding it?

Now for the great news!!!!!!!!
I just got back from the bone and joint doctor and the news is great! I only have a sprained wrist, so I have to wear the brace, but I took it off to type AND a VERY small fracture to my fibula. They took off that brace that made me stiff-legged and gave me an elastic sleeve with a hole in it for my leg. I could jump for joy!!!! Paul showed the doctor pictures he had taken at the scene and he couldn't believe I didn't have a scratch on me, just lots of bruises. Thank you all for your very kind words and support. I feel blessed to be a part of this community. |

glad your still here!!
ive had the SMIDSY remark before when a blind bastard decided to move into my lane whilst i was overtaking a truck on the motorway. that was before i booted the door with my boots on. we even have *think, WATCH FOR BIKES" adverts on tv but i dont know if thats helped at all? headlight modulators are illegal here so the best thing we can do is put main beam headlights on and blind them! at least they will see us! if i ever hit a right turner (left for usa folks) their lives wont be worth living. call me nasty, but its just bad driving. |
