I lost one of the plastic tabs (not the whole post, just the part that clips into the hole) on my transmission cover (part 1 in the diagram below). So right now it is holding on only by the other two tabs.

Has anyone come up with a good solution to keeping this thing attached? I initially thought double sided 3M foam, but that could get messy. Velcro might work, but I don't know how hot that transmission cover gets. Or maybe screw the dang thing in somehow?

2 won't hold. Ask me how I know. Vespa S.F. has them in stock. Or double-stick tape?

Try the double sided foam or make a duct tape ball and use it....

I just removed mine. who needs superfluous stuff on a scooter?

The older black plastic ones were less brittle and seem to last and stay on better.

Bite the bullet and get a new one, you're going to have to get in there all the time for services anyway.

I've been running with one tab broken for at least 3 months, it's still hanging on there. If I can get one cheap I'll replace mine too! $16! I can't get a Vespa screw for $16! Is that for real?

Hey MM,
I broke two of the three tabs off in the first couple of months I owned my GT. So I thought of this quick fix until I bought another one: Simply wrap a small zip tie around the outside of the post (see pic) and snip off the excess up to the edge of the cover. You may need to push in the zip tie a bit with a flathead to get a secure hold, but it's worked perfectly for three years. I experimented with the direction of the tie a couple of times at first, and the way it is in the picture worked the best. It's definitely a cheap fix.

Mine came with only two tabs. The one near 6 o'clock was never there.

The cover holds nicely, and it removes nicely too. Actually, if I bought a new GTS again, I'd brake off that one and be done with it.

How I know it came without? When I first removed it for the 6K, I noticed it missing but there was no broken-off tab inside the tranny cover.

Ha! sweet fix!

I'm gonna order a new one, but this is just what I was looking for in the meantime.

I recently bought a new cover since mine went missing after one of the tabs broke off. The dealer had to order one and the design of the tabs had been changed. They are now smaller with rounded tips, obviously intended to plug into rubber grommets fitted into the case holes. The only problem was that the grommets were not supplied! When the dealer contacted Piaggio about it, they knew nothing about it and said that there were no grommets available. A quick trip to my local hardware store solved the problem and now the cover fits snugly and rattle free! The new design is definately an improvement over the old, it's just a pity that they only got the job half done!

Cheers,

Bob

Well, big thanks to Burgerbob, who came up with the rubber grommet idea. Most elegant.

I went to my local electronics shop and picked up a pack of grommets (7/16" chassis / 5/16" hole size) and popped three into the case holes. I used a screwdriver to make sure they were properly seated, then busted off the two remaining catches. (NOTE: on my design cover, there is a pin that is half-round, then a smaller catch with a lip on it. It was the catch that broke off, not the whole pin.)

This is what a rubber grommet looks like:
