Hello there from a noob,
I was brought here by a search for info on DC conversion.
I live in not so sunny Yorkshire, northern England and I run a 2012 PX 125.
My scoot is currently in lots of pieces ready for a paint and rebuild.
What I was particularly interested in was a post by italjohn from a few years ago about modifying his stator to full wave.
It looks like a really worthwhile mod, especially being able to uprate the headlight.
What I am hoping is if someone experienced with electrics can look at the original post and advise me what the additional component is in the "after" wiring diagram that italjohn posted.
It's the part that is between the rectifier and the original AC cable to the lights etc which is now a DC feed.
It looks like a switch of some sort.
Thanks in advance.
Kev.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I assume you are referring to this post?

It's labelled 'fuse' I believe.

I had some advice at the time from Italjohn and others and created an all-DC system. I use a cheap ebay full-wave regulator rectifier and float the stator. Everything is then run from the DC output. There's not a whole lot more to it than that really.

To me, it looks like the fuse is piggybacking right on top of the switch, so it makes it look like it's all one unit. But that's probably just the way john drew the diagram. I also think it's a switch, but I don't know what it's for. Maybe it's a fused headlight switch?

I think most of us who have done the DC conversion have use the TrailTech regulator/rectifier, instead of the one john used. https://www.trailtech.net/7004-rr150

On my PK, I also wanted a brighter headlight, but since it's a non-battery scooter, I couldn't do a DC conversion. I ended up using an AC to DC converter box. It's MUCH simpler and faster, and cheaper than doing the full wave DC conversion. So far, i've converted two of my 2005 US PX150's over to full DC, so I know just how long it takes to do. With the converter box, it can be done in less than an hour if you're slow. Here's a link to the install of the box... PK125 XL disc brake and LED headlight conversion

-Disclaimer-
I'm not sure what you're planning on using for an uprated headlight, so a DC converter box may or may not work for your needs.

It's a relay, not a switch...

Relay.
Hello.
It's a relay. You could use the type which is used for the starter motor.

In the circuit the coil is connected one end to the chassis and the other the red/white wire. When you turn the ignition switch on the contact closes and connects the battery to the green/black wire. I assume this is so the lights etc are disconnected when the ignition switch is turned off.

I'm used to seeing the little coil icon (looks like a wound coil spring) when looking at a relay in a wire diagram. Is it common for them not to be drawn in?

Yes. Newer schematics now use this type...
