Just saw this on FB from another MVer (thanks, Joe!). Hope this link works....

Guy in Israel started a volunteer first responder program to get people through traffic faster than an ambulance. (If you've been reading the Scooters in Paris thread, it got a bit off-topic with ambulances in traffic).

Supposedly they use "motorcycles," but looks like a maxiscooter to me (that I can't easily identify).

Anyway, seems like a great concept, has to be faster and likely cheaper than ambulance service, although it certainly doesn't replace them, and surely saves lives.

Gee, something to do in retirement with a free PTW to boot!

We've had paramedics on motorbikes and bicycles for a long time here in London. I think the aim is simply to get someone there as soon as possible, it often makes the difference between life and death.

The link to the video worked. I'm glad it did. As a former Paramedic I was wondering how this was set up because all we've done is provide paramedic services and transport. There are more fire stations than EMS stations in our parish, county to the rest of the U.S., and the fire department is dispatched with the paramedic unit. Average response time for the fire department with basic EMT's on board is 3 minutes while the average response time for the paramedic unit is 10 minutes.

I'm not sure how it would work here because drivers don't handle moving to provide right of way for Fire Trucks and Ambulances. They don't easily give the right of way to police motorcycles either. I'm not sure this would work in an urban setting without educating the drivers. We can't even get them to use mass transportation.

It's a good idea though and will work in some places and not in others.

From the video it's working there.
