I don't see how that is relevant when an event like this occurs and we are not allowed to discuss g*ns.?

As others have said there are plenty of other sites you can go to to vent your opinions on these issues - but in instances like this it really is a very large elephant in the room.

This thread is for those expressing sympathy/outrage/whatever. It is not for discussing 2nd Amendment issues.

I'm sure human adults can understand that.

I hope there are no wildfires burning near Thousand Oaks as that could really compound the tragedy. Stay safe folks.

I went to a vigil last night for 12 victims in my town where 1000's attended on a whims notice.

We prayed, hugged, sang, payed respect and support and held candles.

Not one person outside or in the theatre said one fucking word about a #%{.

We know a few of the victims/victims families.

That is all.

It might just be me not understanding, but are you saying that not having that discussion was the right or wrong thing to do?

Jess, the MV site creator/owner defined site policies for reasons that I don't know but will guess its that he (and the moderators) don't want to police the site. He wants the site to be about scooters and related activities and not have to deal with divisive social issues and nasty people. As he and others have said, there's plenty of places to go argue about guns, politics and religion. If you haven't, glance thru the posting guidelines. More than one person has been booted off the site for repeatedly violating the site policies.Its his decision, and as far as I've been able to see over the last 9.5 years, its final. And honestly, I'm just fine with that. I, any MANY others, are here to talk about scooters and learn from each other.

SDG is a long term MV member, site sponsor, and has been VERY generous with his time and knowledge over the years. His posting about the first hand account of the anguish his community is of interest to most of us. I'm sure it was NOT an invitation to argue guns and site policies. Any of us are likely to post a similar observation about tragic and big events that happen in our own communities. And if they are caused by forbidden topics, we all agree to hold our tongues and go elsewhere to argue about them, If it's important to you to argue about them, go so some other site that welcomes it.

So let move on.

David and his community have my utmost sympathies. I hope this never happens in my community despite the fact that I expect it will sometime.

Yes, I know SDG has been here for ages, and I've been around pretty much the same length of time as you. I know of the ban on discussions here and am well aware of how sensitive a subject it can be. He was specifically talking about people not discussing things in the community near where this happened, and I wasn't sure if he was supporting that or not. No ulterior motive here, as I'm on the other side of the ocean and unaffected by this. I just wanted to understand a bit more clearly.

I pretty much just wanted a hug. No other motive expressed or implied. Thanks for the support peeps.

For the record, my response did include one, but obliquely. You deserved a full-on one.
It's so hard to find words, or to feel like there is anything effective to do in these situations. Sometimes just being there is as much as can be done.

Oh man, growing up in Oxnard and having family still there and in Camarillo, this news is like a sucker punch, but much, much worse. I literally felt a blow to the heart hearing about this, and am still trying to shake the feeling.

We've been reeling in confusion since the Las Vegas event. A friend of my wife is still going through surgeries, dozens already. I think I know how you might feel and immediately thought of you. All the best for a warm and hug-filled recovery from an evil event.

Thank you to all for the condolences. Losing a friend in the Vegas shooting has finally begun to sunk in, and now this. Everything is still rather surreal. Living less than 50 meters from the Woolsey fire mandatory evacuation zone hasn't helped -- my parents have been evacuated since Friday. Things are finally starting to calm down a little, so now the healing can slowly begin. Thank you for the support.
