My lonely LX 150 had to be left behind at work when she wouldn't start Friday afternoon. I am hoping it is just a dodgy battery and colder weather.

My 2006 LX uses a YB9 battery. Its about 4 years old, so due for a change (but I do frequently keep it in a Tender).

I believe my GT200 uses a YTX12. My understanding is that the YTX12 will fit in the LX, but needs a different battery tray to sit properly. For the time being I don't have the tray. Will the battery from my GT physically fit without the new tray? Maybe I'd need to remove the existing tray? Use some cardboard etc as temporary spacers to snug it up?

My thought is to bring over the GT battery, swap it in, and try to get the LX going. Just trying to plan for the right tools since I will be a ways from my shop.

Yes a 12 is what we upgrade LX to all the time. You might need to remove the battery tray for a hot minute.

If you have a little piece of cardboard put that under the battery.

Best,

It will fit in the LX150 and work just fine, but the battery cover likely won't fit. As a temporary emergency fix it's fine.

Thanks everyone!

I removed the GT's battery and found out it's actually a YTX14-BS. But pulling the dimensions from the Yuasa website, and knowing from here that a YTX12 fits fine, I still think the 14-BS will work as a temporary fix to get the bike home.

It's a few mm taller (6mm), so as David Masse says the battery cover might not fit. But I'll just bring an insulating top (like cardboard) as at temporary measure. I'll try later this afternoon... here's to hoping it's just the battery after all!

The good news is that the bike us at home, and got there under its own power!

The less good news is that it wasn't a simple battery swap, so I spent an hour troubleshooting. Luckily it was in a parking garage, which was a lot more comfortable than road side.

Turned out to be clogged vacuum inlet on the manifold, so the carb wasn't getting any fuel. I cleaned it out well enough to get running, and will look at it more carefully today.

The battery swap itself went fine. As expected, I had to remove the battery tray and could not fit the battery cover. The only hitch was the positive lead was a little short to reach the terminal on the YTX14 battery. But with a little finagling, that went too.
