Any suggestions on shoring up a gear oil leak. Appears to be coming from two spots.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Pictures would help but any sort of gear box oil leak isn't a good sign. Having a Sprint from the 60's in the US... isn't a good sign either.

You could try nipping up the engine casing bolts. I think there are 13 of them but only about 6 that are easily accessible. Failing that the correct way would be new gaskets and sealing compound.

Thanks for the advice.

I shored up the bolts as best I could. Figure since its been leaking, I'd add a little oil to top off. Unscrewed the filler plug, and oil poured out like a drain plug. A lot of extra oil. I understand overfilling can result in leaks also. I cleaned everything up. Now crossing my fingers.

Thanks again

It's pretty hard to over-fill as the oil will just run out of the filler/level hole. I would drain it all and check to see if it smells like gas.....

Thanks Moto

OK I check the drips on the floor. Smelled of gas and oily feel. I figured you called it. Opened the filler bolt ( drained out a quarter dixie of oil ) Oil looks gnarly brown greenish. Figured it would smell of gas It didn't. It kind of had a sweet smell to it. No gasoline smell at all. Maybe I have a gas drip and a gear oil leak.

Check for blowback dribbling out the back of the carb box and down the engine
