I just ordered a 2019 GTS 300, and will take delivery in March (can't wait). I know I want a windshield on it, and need to decide which one. I'm thinking I want something "mid-sized".

The dealer is recommending an aftermarket windshield that he says they've sold for over 10 years. Sorry, I don't recall the brand. The dealer showed me the shield installed on a GTS 250. The first thing that struck me was the angle. I guess I expected the windshield to tilt at roughly the same angle as the legshield. This windshield looked much more vertical, and didn't look adjustable. Is that how it's supposed to be? I'd like to find one that "flows" better, as long as it doesn't destroy the shield's effectiveness.

Can you call the dealer and get the brand/model of the windscreen? Kind of tough for the panel of experts here (of which I am NOT one) to postulate on the unknown.

As a side note I find it odd that a Vespa dealer wouldn't recommend the OEM windscreen. (I have a medium OEM on my GTS 300 and love it.)

Good luck!

I'm with JP. I've tried several different "mid-height" GTS screens in the past and have found the "mid-height" Vespa screen to be the best of them.

Rake angle aerodynamics. A wind shield without angle pushes through the air compared to a shield with angle.

Isn't it surprising that those who agree with us seem to be the most astute and discriminating of the MV posters. 8)

Faco and Malossi make mid narrow screens that are identical. The fittings are as well.

I have used them for years and am satisfied.

The angle on all of them is the same except one of mine is unexplainablly much more vertical. I don't use it anymore.

I am certain that the chromed, steel support could be heated ang bent to the desired angle.

I have ridden a GTS with the Vespa mid screen and found it offered more wind protection than my narrow screens, but I still prefer the narrow.

I contacted the dealer and he said that the windscreens they've been using don't even have a name brand. They're some generic thing from Taiwan. He's been happy with them, but that didn't sound too attractive to me.

On my Fly, I heated and bent the painted brackets to angle the windscreen for better attack angle. It did seem to help airflow over my body. I also cut the screen down.

I'd be careful about trying to bend brackets with chrome plating. It would likely cause the chrome plating to fracture and start flaking off.

Sounds like your dealer is pushing what makes him/her the highest margin.

Go with a name brand. You'll be happier down the road me thinks.

I might be a bit leery of no name windscreens. I've used OEM, Givi and Faco mid screens on my Vespa. The Faco is a twin screen that lets you adjust the height which I find I rarely do. Angle is very close if not identical on each of them. There is little difference between the OEM and the Givi. Though the Givi may have a bit better hand protection.

You may need to be careful if you want to bend the screen further back since there is not as much room from the headset to your head as there are in longer wheelbase motorcycles/scooters. Quite a few people add a laminar lip to change the airflow direction at the top of the windscreen.

No that isn't a particular bargain. Here's a selection for the GTS to compare.

Midsize Faco which is popular is $129. The adjustable twin is $149.

That's more than some of the OEM Piaggio screens we sell. There are a lot of options out there.

We've got the Malossi Sport Screen for $95.

We just got in a bunch of the Faco twin screens, and they are $119

We've got the tinted Piaggio Flyscreen for $129. It's a great Summer screen.

And the OEM Piaggio Midsize and Full size screens are both under $200.

Thank you very much for the links. You're right, lots of good options out there. I'll definitely take a pass on the dealer's windscreen!

This is the one I like. The right height for most of us and wide enough to get your body and hands mostly out of the wind. Also, the expansion fasteners for the Piaggio/Vespa screens are particularly easy to insert and remove so it is easy to take the screen off in the summer if that is what you prefer.

Forget the angle aspect, as the reality of a windscreen, once you get past looking cool notions, is the ergonomics of your torso height. From seat surface up to the top of your head/helmet that distance combined with arm length equals where your head is found. The idea is to keep wind off your head and avoiding neck pressures too, aside from bugs, debris and other flying objects like rain, etc..
Bending a chrome plated bar removes and/or damages the rust resistant plating thus illogical IMO vs. buying the right screen for your ergos in the first place.
Hand protection as mentioned comes with wider shields with hand protection.
If you'll post you torso height beltline/navel to top of head and arm length like a dress shirt you might get information beyond a shot in the dark?
I really like FACO as it gives me height to match my ergos but like said-once you get it right that sweet spot is where it will likely stay. I vary my wind in the face by flipping my visor up on a modular helmets and wearing safety glasses and or the helmets sun visor.
