Mines never really been right. I have to get it a really hard push to get it to latch. A light push will never do it. Is this common?

Also the remote key fob isn't what I would consider very usable. I have to literally stand next to the seat and hold down the button for a good 5 to 10 seconds waiting for it to finally click. Also, is this common?

This is on a 2018 GTS.

New bike should be returned to dealer for those issues.

I'm not sure about the hard push. I do know that the key fob is a pain sometimes. I always have to hold it to work sometimes it works on the push of the button and other times it takes longer than 10 seconds.

It's an 85 mile ride each way. I was hoping there was some trick that you all knew about.

It's hard to know if it's normal without knowing what you consider a hard push. It does require some effort to latch. If you see someone else with a GTS, ask them to show you how hard it is to open and close their glove compartment. Then you will have a better idea of whether there is something different about yours or not.
As far as the remote, have you tried changing the battery?

Latching wonkiness for GT/GTS glovebox is a common problem, and is usually a result of the tiny mounting screws inside the legshield coming loose - scooters vibrate and shake things loose. Giving the bike a regular once-over to tighten bolts and fasteners is normal (I always find a few loose when I get around to doing this).

I had your exact problem on my old GT, pulled the legshield and spent 30 seconds tightening the glovebox screws and everything was fixed. I couldn't believe how much better the glovebox worked. The time-consuming part was removing the legshield, but it's not difficult and certainly in the realm of most home mechanics with basic hand tools.

I don't think it's unusual for this problem on a new bike, because new bikes always have some loosening after break-in, all those surfaces are getting used to each other and mating to one another, some more successfully than others. When I've done a first service on any new scooter I've found lots of loose stuff that needed tightening. It's not a manufacturing defect, it's just the nature of scooters.

Robot has a video on tightening the glovebox that helped me a bunch, and I think this is the video:
Good luck, crack a beer with friends while you're doing it if possible, have some good music on if you'd like. It's fun to get to know your scooter, and it's free. 🛵😍

I suggest you just live with the hard push.

I bought a 2006 GT200 a couple weeks ago. Glove box would open normally but wouldn't close without pushing in the key to move the latch.

Took the bike all the way down to the floor so I could install new legshield trim and along the way discovered the glove box hinges were loose. On a whim I refitted that part to see if the glovebox would work right. It closed with the slightest push and I was elated.

Well my legshield trim came yesterday and I put everything back together today. Now the glovebox requires a "hard push". Gone is the effortless perfect close. Now it takes about 2-3 pounds of force. There's no way I'm taking it all apart again just for that. Too much risk of scratching paint or dropping a fastener into the bike never to be found.

Did that today too. Dropped one of the tiny screws that holds the back of the handlebar cover on. It fell into a hole and now it'll be a week before the replacement I ordered gets here.

I'm thinking you're right. In ROBOT's video he talks about the glove box latches being loose, which mine are not. It's just the little plastic latch thingy doesn't grab unless you give it a hard push. Just lightly pressing in doesn't work.

At least it does close, so there's that.

I'm just a few minutes up the road from you. If you need to drop off the GTS for dealer work, you're more than welcome to borrow my ramp trailer. Or, I'll trailer it over for you. I'm assuming it's Winter Park.

You're probably right. Maybe it will get better with time. If not, sometimes a minor adjustment / moving things around works. My new-to-me GTS had a seat that would not latch - you could just pull it open, always. I sprayed silicon lubricant in the mechanism, no change. Then I just unscrewed the 4 bolts that surround the latch/gas cap, loosened and readjusted the latch mechanism - and now it works great. Scooter emoticon
