My scooter club may be attending a several day bike show over the winter. I have suggested performing an installation of a malossi 190 kit during the show .

The engine will already be removed from a scooter but I was wondering what the average time it would take to perform?.

A competent mechanic or a wannabe like me?

1-2 hours is plenty for the business end regardless. See the Motorsport vid on YouTube.

As znomit says, not very long if the engine is out. Easily doable at a show. A diy'er will normally take longer than a pro because there are some fiddly bits to deal with during assembly that a pro will be used to sorting out. Sometimes a stud breaks and needs to be removed and a new one installed too, but it doesn't happen that often. I would mention that air cooled engines are more prone to stud breakage during disassembly than liguid cooled engines and I'm assuming it's your ET that will be worked on...yes? But as long as you have ALL the tools ready and have read up on it, it should go fine. Let us know how it goes.

If the casings need porting to match the barrel I wouldn't be rushing it.

No porting involved on the 4 strokes

Took me 6 hrs to do including dropping the motor. I snapped a stud in the process.

Disassemble it before the show, and reassemble, so you know you won't break a stud or have other delays.

I see you have a Sprint. Is it a 3 valve motor? What are your impressions after the upgrade? Do you recommend it?
Thanks

I have a 2 valve non fuel injected 2009. It gave me a bit of power based on the butt dyno. I would say the most improved part was pick up torque from 20-50 mph. I would recommend it as a toy or if you were debating getting a bigger scoot because of needing a little more power. It really cut down my gas mileage I would say 50mpg vs about 70 before. And you have to run a performance pipe once installed. That keeps total investment kinda high for performance gain.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at options for a Primavera. The starting point here in Europe is 125cc since we do not have the 150 option. How much power you gained from the 150 motor according to dyno test? I thought this would improve the two person ride enough to justify the investment... but I see the gaining might be quite marginal for the mess!

Sorry for the insistence but are there any numbers to support the decision?

Thanks!

Lol. The butt dyno is a term for the "seat of your pants" I just ment it felt faster not that I actually had it tested. There was a good difference with 2 up riding putting total rider weight at about 250 lbs it made it from a slow bike to about what it was with just me 140 lbs on it feel like when it is stock. If that is a good example. If it costs you a few hundred dollars it is worth it. But if you are looking for 250cc power you won't be close. I guess if you want more power and you do the work yourself it is worth it but to pay a ahop I dont know if it is worth that much more. A few pluses is that it is throater on the exhaust. Faster on the pull and seems to de just as reliable. I have over 20k miles on mine kitted.

Here's three numbers:
190/125=1.52

Sure, but I'd like to know if the power numbers are consistent with the cubic ones...
