I have a BV350 with a 48L big OEM top case. When I twisted the key to the right to open it, it didn't stop like normal. It kept going all the way around. I pulled part of the keyset out of the metal tube that holds it. Now my top case is locked shut and I have no way to open it. I would appreciate some suggestions on what I should do. I was using my top case everyday until it broke.

If the lock mechanism has fallen apart, can't you just keep turning it in one direction or the other until the catch releases?

Or, ride to a local locksmith and I'm sure they'll get it open. A replacement OEM lock is relatively inexpensive, assuming Piaggio uses the same model on all the bikes.

I replaced mine when it started acting up last year.

The final alternative which is less desirable is carefully hammering out the hinge pin(s). The risk is damaging the hinge.

I know they use a different lock set on some of the Piaggio topcases because we were thinking about ordering them and I remember thinking that I'd never been asked about them before.
I'm not sure about the one on the BV350. Take it off or get a part number before you replace it. They are about $25 if it's the one they use on all the Vespas.

You can drill it out, which is probably the easiest way to get it open, just be careful not to melt or crack the plastic.

The stops inside the metal tube that holds the key mechanism inside it has the little pieces in the inside of it broken off. So there is nothing for the key to hit against to open the lock in either direction. I already tried that. Okay, once I get it open I'll replace the whole lock set. If I drill out the lock, I am not concerned about the lockset that will be replaced anyway, I just want to be sure that I don't brake one of the two metal bars on the top part that lock it down since I will need those in place for the new lock set. Anyone know if I would I hit those if I drill it out? I thinking that I will need to go to a lock smith unless someone knows a trick to getting it opened.

I am surprised that it's still locked with the core pulled out. On my top case the hook (latch) is attached to the back of the core.

If you look down in the hole with a flashlight do you see anything left you could turn with a screwdriver or needle nose pliers?

If the hole goes clean through then make a J-hook out of a coat hanger and try to reach the latch from the inside.

How about a pic of the lock core/plug? Did the nut come off, or did the back of the plug break off?

I'll try a screw driver, pliers, and J-hook.

In the mean time my headlight burned out so I had to replace it, and then my battery went dead while I had the other lights on while fixing the headlamp. So I had to jump my scooter and then drive it around for a half an hour to charge it back up.

I think something broke off the back of the lock.

Here's two pictures.

When I locked my key inside my GTS OEM topcase I was able to drive out the hinge pins with a large nail with the point filed off and get in that way. I don't know how a BV case is constructed or if it is possible on yours.
