So far, nearly every electric racing series or class I've seen is limited by battery capacity. So it is not so much racing as energy management. Not that F1 is any different (sadly) with its tire and fuel limitations.

Watched the TT race, and the riders were very concerned about being able to finish without running out of battery. Formula E, same thing. Until they have enough battery capacity to run flat out for the whole distance, not so much fun.

GPE limits the number if laps so full power can be used. I think they ran 6 laps in austria in stead of about 20 for tge real racers.

ClubAlfa.it: Magnax presenta un nuovo motore elettrico con il 98% di efficienza.
https://www.clubalfa.it/70313-magnax-nuovo-motore-elettrico-molto-efficiente

"Magnax presents a new electric motor with 98% efficiency

The 1.2 kg magnet allowed to reduce the overall weight of the new powertrain

Magnax, a well-known manufacturer of electric motors, has recently presented a new and very efficient electric car engine.

Based on the company's statement, it is a 100% electric axial flow powertrain capable of achieving an efficiency of 98%. Let's talk about 8% more than the electric motors used today on the various vehicles. This efficiency, according to Magnax, would have been possible thanks to the weight-power ratio.

AgnaMagnax, the new electric motor weighs just 16 kg

Magnax: the Belgian company has announced a new and really interesting electric engine

The engineers of the Belgian company have made this engine using bobbins with a special rectangular and non-round cable cooling circuit. These ensure a reduction in energy losses thanks to space savings of 90% and allow for lower temperatures.

If this were not enough, with the use of two permanent magnet rotors and a stator, Magnax was able to reduce the electricity flow path"

It's very funny.

It sort of reminds me of the news stories and adverts from the first Robocop.

Not bad at all!

I also like the way they've given some thought to practicality... the storage space, modular design enabling upgrades...

I'm not so sure about having the motor in the wheel. It means more weight is unsprung which tends to mean a choppier ride. Also, if you have the motor at the back then it shifts the centre of gravity away from that ideal place of low down in the middle between the two wheels. Personally I'd prefer the Zero bikes but they're also more expensive.

Oddly, on the Greek island I'd been spending the last couple of weeks, I saw no end of electric three wheeled scooters. They looked Chinese and not the sort of thing a normal Vespa rider would look at twice but at least it showed that electric vehicles were making in roads. There were also a lot of electric kick scooters for hire and for sale - I guess on a small island they were quite a hip alternative for getting around. Cheapskate that I am, I was riding a beat up and quite noisy petrol scooter.

The question of US prices will remain up in the air until our President's "trade war" plays out.

Who's in charge
remains to be seen:

2 Finnish journalists took a Nissan Leaf electric car and rode to the Formula 1 Grand Prix race in Austria and back. Around 3500km round trip.

Beforehand, they thought that the scarcity of charging points would be an issue in a trip through several countries. Also, the Leaf has a quite short range.

Nope. Plenty of charging points. The issue was paying. As this is a new, booming business, there is a jungle of various payment methods, from dedicated cards to various apps. None of these typically compatible with each other.

So the guys travelled, saw gasoline cars just to stop at the stations and pay with the credic card in every single country. Would be way too easy to allow the same for electric vehicles.... Even when they had the right cards (they had done some homework...), there were often issues in getting things to work at "the pump".

But, they made it. With all the hassle, 2 days drive took about 3 days each way. Once a Tesla driver saved them by borrowing them credict. Several times locals help them. The European crocery chain Lidl became their best friend with occasional free - and easy to use - charging points.

You don't seem to understand. I'm not talking politics here (that is not allowed ). Call it the administration's trade war if you prefer. I am talking tariffs on imported Chinese goods such as electric scooters imposed by the U.S. government. A 25% to 30% tariff on a scooter adds substantially to its retail price. I presume that is why we are seeing a delay in the introduction of the Revel e-scooter by Genuine Scooters. I don't expect things like that to move forward until and unless the "trade dispute" is resolved.

Met a friend last night for a backgammon session. He's a bit of a petrol head so it was a bit of a surprise when he turned up on a electric kick scooter as they seemed a bit "tame" for him. It turned out this thing does 40mph with dual motors front and rear with a peak power of 2600W (the M365 has 500W). It also has dual disk brakes and weighs about the same as a shetland pony. I certainly couldn't picture anyone carrying this thing up the stairs at the train station but then, with a range of 60 miles, you might be able to avoid using the train. I'm not going to recommend it as a sensible, or safe, form of transport but it was certainly an interesting beast. It was called an Inokim OXO.

I still don't understand why they use a very, too strange design; who said that the more alien it is, the more they like it? I will be strange but even if a model were technically valid the design could make it unsellable ... "as long as it works" is no longer everything if you understand what I want to express.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned the NIU NGT before. They look like a fairly decent electric scooter with a top speed just over 40mph, a range of over 100m and a fancy built in alarm.
They're not exactly rapid but they look fairly well made and the price of £3000 is quite attractive.

about free charging - we've had it a few years now, many companies offering free charging for their employees & customers, some shopping malls the same, larger cities...

BUT, while it was a curiosity at first, now the number of especially plug-in-hybrids have gone up.

As the result two parties have awaken:
- the taxman. Can't have freebies for the employees, eletricity available for the cars at the office is a fringe benefit and legally have to be taxed around here.
- political lobbying for business. Can't have cities and public authorities offering electricity for free as it distorts competition.

All this is understandable, but has a bit challenging timing as we still don't have a very systematic charging network available... to boost electric vehicles, a bit more "free" time would be beneficial.

For the cars, there is another local factor making things more complicated: the biogas hybrids. The Finnish coverment is pushing biogas heavily as it is 100% domestic production and better yet, using here almost 100% waste as the raw material. German car manufacturers, as well as Volvo offer petrol & biogas hybrids... still a tiny niche, but several thousand vehicles registered during the last year as gas is well priced and you'll still get your E Merc or a big Volvo... and don't have to get your hands dirty and play around with the charging cables

Gas statitions, literally gas this time, do not cover the whole country, but as these cars are hybrids, it is not a big thing.

Can I fill my evil petrol guzzling car with old batteries, charge it up for free, power my home with it?
