Looks like instead of computer CAD, all they could afford to design it with was a LEGO set.

I'm sure I would add my usual farkles: Grip Buddies, custom seat, top box, etc.

That seat really does need looking at.

Zero weather protection.

Not to mention the rear fender - especially if you are a ride in the rain kind of guy.

Not a great seat if you have a touch of the Chalfonts and hit a speed bump at 40mph.

Nor is an older fella on a little fellas bike...

Just got an email from ScooterWest about the 2020 Vespa Niu all-electric scooter. Seems like they're coming along and the price tag is slowly coming down into semi-reasonable territory. This one seems to have two model variants: comparable, according to the specs in the email, to a 50cc and a ~75cc.

If they keep making progress in development, my next scooter will hopefully be electric. That would be enjoyable, especially if it lets me ride without the engine noise!

Vespa Niu ? It's either a Vespa or a Niu. Two different brands.

I would miss the engine noise. To me it's part of the man and machine bond that you get when riding especially on a geared bike. For an electric I would definitely need something that performed at least as well as a 300 and preferably have a top end of at least 120 kmh. In other words freeway capable.

I have been riding one of the NIU share bikes around Barcelona and they are quite impressive. I might buy one once the tariffs go away to tinker with. Very high build quality.

That's my neighbor's Fuoco. He also has a Harley Sportster, which he is out riding.

The graphics are ugly, but they stand out when someone wants to rent one.

I realize that I'm in the very small minority (or seemingly so) of riders that prefer quiet bikes. For me, it goes back to bicycling roots and 100 mile days where the miles and thoughts would just unwind down the road or trail. Engine noise mucks that up for me. It's why my '09 Triumph Bonnie was my favorite motorcycle and one of the things I loved about the GTS: they were quiet...the Bonnie so much so that I installed a tachometer because letting off the throttle kept making me think I had stalled. One of the reasons I sold my Kawa Vulcan cruiser was because it broke my heart to see little kids reflexively cover their ears when I turned the key to start it. It wasn't loud, but you could tell they made the association that cruiser = ears hurt.
The new Street Twin is louder...I'm kinda hoping it quiets down as it breaks in.

I would LOVE an electric that could do highways...but it's probably a decade or so away. (I hope not, though!) I'll settle for the performance of a 125-150cc to compliment the car and ICE bike until then...but it needs a top speed of 60mph so it can keep up with the flow of traffic on 45mph roads...IMHO.

Still...the double-battery one has a (listed) top speed of 45mph while the single-battery is 30mph...progress!

I love the silence. There's so much else to hear.

Yeah that actually has a lot of promise. Sure it's a heavy bike but the sidecar has a lot of battery carrying capacity. It's we'll pass the early testing and things look promising. We'll see where it goes.

I saw the 2.9 seconds for the Apex as well. That is truly amazing torque and speed if they pull it off. Its a nice looking bike.
