Hi guys
Seeking for help. First of all sorry for my English
I recently manage to recover my stolen 300 gts
Unfortunately thiefs damaged whole lock. Part which is welded to frame is damaged.

Any advice? Do I need to replace whole frame? As from I know welding it will be very difficult.

Apart of that I understand I'll need new barrel, set of keys and some body who will reprogram immobiliser right?

Thanks

The main issue will be one of distortion to the barrel that holds the lock. The lock has to fit very snugly and slide in the chamber to allow opening of the glovebox. That may be a problem if welded, but it's difficult to know from just looking at pictures. I think you must speak to folks who specialise in this type of repair. The lock chamber looks distorted, it's cast metal and breaks relatively easily if you try to knock it back into shape. However, this surely must be the sort of damage seen after many thefts so getting a replacement chamber may be a possibility. Surely your bike insurers will pay for this, no?

This is actually replaceable (you have to weld it) and produced as a spare by Piaggio. Code of the part is 298604. As I see it, you'll also need the lock bar. Code is 298903. Parts can be ordered from a Piaggio dealer...

You will need the new key set, but don't need to reprogram your ecu if you still have your red key, because you can switch the chip into the new key set and then program the blue key.
You will need two small wire clips, one holds the tumbler in, the other holds that blue/green thing that goes in the back, and the outer ring thing that says on, off, lock.
Finding someone who can weld the bar in the correct place is the difficult part. Tack it in place, then put the glove box on (after it cools), and make sure it is aligned before you weld the new one completely on.

Excellent news you can buy this part.

You don't want much heat around that area because of the steering head bearings. My advice would be to MIG it as it's faster and less heat will travel. It's only a small area to weld so it should be safe to do that. If you think MIG is overkill, then TIG it but that works slower and heat can travel. Again it's only a small area so overall it's probably safe to do. Take it to a pro welder if you haven't done that stuff before or get some pro advice first on which weld to use. To a welder it's an easy peasy job and they will align everything properly for you once you have explained how it all works. Cost will be tiny.
