Merseyside.Hi , my gts 300 has been cutting out when I stop .Just had it on a diagnostic test as the engine management light was on .Dealer called me today and said it's the ECU.They have a spare one they use in the garage and tried it on mine and it's ticking over as normal now .So rather than buy a new one and be fitted from a main dealer about £640 . He said I could get a second hand one and do it myself to save me a fortune. How easy or hard is it to do .Oh he did say get keys with it .Does that mean getting a barrel also . Cheers for any help .Part number (CM081701)🛵

Mostly an easy job. I did this recently. The throttle cables are the most fiddly bit. You can program the ECU with your master key. Can't quite remember the procedure, but I think you switch the ignition on for about 3 seconds using the master key, and then switch it off.

Are you talking about the ECU or CDI?

To change the ECU you will need to remove the glove box, foot pegs, floor panel, and the ECU lives between the battery vault and the frame on the left back side. It is attached to a bracket with small screws and nuts.

The ECU is one piece with the throttle body. You just have to take out the "pet carrier" under the seat...

Sorry for the misinformation. You are right. I was thinking about the HT body

You can see the ECU in the pic below on my GTS300, silver/black in the middle with throttle body attached. (Disregard the pen pointing to another part of the motor, it's pointing to the location from where I disconnected the evap cannister hose which are present on US/Canada bikes.)

Max, that's the cdi unit.

Edit: Sorry, that's already been pointed out...
