i have recently put a flyscreen on my px 125 and it looks great but i wondered could it prove dangerous in the event of an accident because i thougt that if i went into the back of someone i would be thrown foreward towards it and it would either hit me in the face or throat so the thought of that isnt to pleasent to think about so i wanted to hear peoples opinions as to wheather they are safe or not

I just put a 13" FACO on my GTS last night. I'm in the very same boat as you - I really like the looks of it, but I got the same impression - that the top edge would get me right in the forehead if I were ever hit anything. I took the bike out this evening, and was dismayed to discover that the screen deflects the wind RIGHT into my face.

I don't like the looks of the shorter OR the taller screens, so if I have a screen at all, this would be the one - and I'm seriously considering taking it off. I'm not a speedster, so the reports of screens giving higher top speeds don't get much traction with me.

Oh! Welcome to the forum! First post!!

Generally speaking, when a scooter strikes a stationary object the back end of the machine lifts, more or less launching the rider up and forward, clearing or glancing off the screen. Unless the screen was laid waayyy back so the top edge was actually pointing at you, I don't think you really have much to worry about. I suggest that if you are afraid of running into the back of something then perhaps it is time to look at your riding habits and adjust the distance between you and the object ahead.

I'm not so much thinking about the hit that would take me over the handlebars, but a lighter hit that would throw me forward without throwing me off the bike. Nearly happened to me the first week I had the bike - a car pulled out in front of me, turning left from a driveway to my right - I was doing about 25 and had to brake real hard to avoid him. If I'd have been 10 feet further ahead than I was, I'd have hit him braodside. Life would be a lot simpler if our own driving was the only thing we had to worry about.

It would snap right off. At least that is what happened to the one on my motorcycle.

Saw your post after the crash - wish you a full recovery, glad you weren't hurt any worse. You'll live to ride another day, I trust...

Maybe my screen is swept back more than others - seems my head would come right down on that top edge.

Cindy's right. The bolts that hold the windscreen on the Vespa windscreen are soft plastic, as are the nuts and the windscreen. I think they may be manufactured to break away.

A friend of mine in high school got tapped by a car from behind while stopped at a red light. His face went into the stem/handlebars and he broke his jaw (he was wearing a shorty helmet).

I think you're more likely to go facefirst into the top of the windscreen in that kind of scenario, rather than hitting someone who cut you off (which would pitch you off the bike entirely).

In either case, a full face helmet seems like a good way to reduce the risk.

Agreed that it'll snap off before doing any big damage - not at all like a car windshield.

When I read the title of the post I was thinking it was going to be about wind gusts and unwanted inputs to the bars.

As much as I'd like to find evidence of scooterists getting decapitated by their windscreens; I've been unable to, so crash away.

Modern flyscreens (as others said) have safety compliant fastenings, so I would not worry about it, and, by the way, if I had an accident (God forbid) this would be the least of my problems

i'll worry about it when i fall off....
