My 2007 BV500 has the water pump leak issue(s). In the cold temps here in the winter, there is a puddle of coolant underneath the water pump area. Can anyone give guidance as to either replace the pump or have it rebuilt? What other items do I need to get if I just replace the pump vs having it rebuilt? pros and cons of either way? I want to get everything lined up before the job gets started. Jim in NE ohio Thanks

Jim- I had my waterpump replaced years ago at POC in Cleveland. Phil Waters (and many folks here) suggest replacing the pump as opposed to rebuilding it. Mine actually had bits of the pump gathering under the inspection cover. The only additional items noted were two hose clamps to take place of the original one-use-only deals and of course, coolant. I know the 500 has the Master engine which is different from the Leader in my 200 so there will be some differences. A call to Cleveland Moto will get you the correct info for your scoot.
Good luck! Bob |

We have the kits to rebuild it, but there were two diameter spindles in that engine, 20 and 30mm. On the 500 engine, the water pump is in the flywheel cover, and not a separate component.
Unfortunately I don't know how you can figure out which one you need, because Piaggio just decided to change it one day. https://scooterpartsco.com/recambi-scooter/tk/water-pump-kit-for-aprilia-piaggio-400-500-20mm-shaft https://scooterpartsco.com/recambi-scooter/tk/water-pump-repair-kit-for-piaggio-aprilia-gilera-400-and-500 |

2007 BV500 waterpump
I have a 2007 BV500 and have had the water pump replaced by the local dealership. You should know that there are two different cover gaskets and you won't know which one you need to order until you take the cover off. They were actually replacing the stator as well for a different problem. One would think that Piaggio would be able to tell the proper gasket by you Vin number but then this is Piaggio and they can't. I really like the BV500 even though Piaggio is a little difficult to deal with. Keep us posted on how things turn out.
