The Weather Channel is saying all 48 states in the continental U.S. will be affected by the big storm, I'm guessing many here will be grounded for at least a day or two. They are predicting 14+ inches of snow here in my part of Ohio tomorrow.

This could be a place to post pix of what we go through today, tomorrow, and Sunday.

I went out and made sure my 26 year old snowblower started. First try!! We have food and wine so we are ready.

Good luck to those that are going to get hammered! At least it's set to hit on the weekend so many people will be able to hole up at home. Nothing like a good snowstorm, a fireplace and some Netflix. My wife and I love those days but then again we're in a condo so the only real inconvenience is the snow contractor showing up at 6 am with the shovel truck.

We've already been downgraded here to only about 5 cm of snow. Having grown up in Montreal that is almost not enough to even count. Hopefully a lot of the states have also been downgraded.

With nearly 200 inches of snow, a number we will pass before the storm is past it is ski slopes not the scooter that gets attention. Monday the Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championship starts so I will be forgetting the week helping out the teams, previously Turkey which I will be hosting for the second time this year. If you are interested in seeing some of what has been created in the past I have photos from every competition since 2010 up at https://folioscenes.com/ it is amazing what these darkened people can do with a 10x10x12 foot block of snow.

Just got an email from the mountain and we are officially over 200" this season. The ski resort has applied to the forest service to stay open until Memorial Day weekend based on the amount of snow we've gotten and what we are predicted to get between now and then. Current forecast is 16" over the next 5 days. I'm so glad we have a snow plow service.

My new helmet came in today (feel sorry for the UPS guy since we've had over 5" today). Ski helmet not scooter helmet though. Boy is this Drift helmet light but is used by US Ski team members so I guess it should be good.

Guess your cat knows where you sleep. (Mine does.)

Meanwhile: last time this area got semi-hammered with snow, Asbury barely got a dusting. The same is more-or-less predicted based on tonight's forecast. Bought a tub of de-icer the day before, just in case.

I used to visit the snow sculpture event most years when I lived in the Denver area. It is definitely worth the trip.

Forecast for Los Angeles is 75 degrees and sunny.

We did have four days of rain this week. On my commute Wednesday, I saw zero PTWs. On Thursday, there was one. I don't know if they're all wimps, or if I am crazy. (Could be both, of course.)

I miss the big Montreal snowstorms. Our all-wheel drive SUV equipped with aggressive snowtires on all four paws is such ridiculous overkill here and never has any 'real' work to do. We got a little dusting yesterday: it amazes me when I see that many Torontonians' go-to snow-clearing weapon is a broom. On my morning walk a municipal worker was clearing snow with a leaf blower. So sad...

I use a broom to clear snow - from my staircase. 7" here yesterday with a sunny break today before another storm on Monday.
If you really miss big snow dumps that much you are welcome to come visit. Over 200" so far this season.

calm.......my ass
Just came inside from plowing out my driveway and side walks. snow is done, but the wind is cranking up. I am sure i will have to do this again before the day is over. really cant tell how much snow we got, some of the drifts were waist deep, but yet there are a few spots in the back yard where the grass is showing.

Snowing like crazy here right now. There's a guy from the Weather Channel 35 minutes southwest of here standing next to the turnpike in calm weather- no snow- no rain. We are getting hammered. I bet we do end up with a foot of snow. My neighbor has guests from Brazil staying with him. Last week one person said to me that they thought it would be much worse weather-wise here. I told them to wait for the weekend....

Final update
We got well over a foot of snow and now its drifting. There are drifts around the house of probably two feet.

Not a fan of winter or snow so there is no pleasure here... I know many people love this stuff but I can't figure it out.

Bring on the sun and 80 degree temps!

We only got a couple of inches of snow followed by freezing rain here in northwest NJ. All that's left is a slushy mess. Just to be safe, I had my generator ready to go in case of a power outage. I bought it during Hurricane Sandy and have only had to use it a couple of times since.

You must be rather North of me: Asbury's dry as the proverbial dog biscuit, but cray-cray cold (14°F now, going down to 9°). Actually wiped down Melody of what little rain was left on her this afternoon prior co covering 'er up, just as temps dropped below freezing - 'twas a bit surreal to wipe off water in a mid-freezing state.

I know it's not that exact of a science, and they can be wrong with their forecasts, but the media (and I mostly mean The Weather Channel here) needs to dial down the prediction of disaster for every freaking snowfall that's predicted. "MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE IN DANGER!" People are already taking their dire forecasts less seriously.

My daughter's location in North Jersey was estimated to receive 8"- 1 foot followed by a 1/4" of ice. She got a dusting.

And at the other end of the spectrum for being very wrong... the storm before this, at my South Jersey location, I was supposed to get nothing to a dusting. I got 5+ inches.

Agree 100%. Weather is mostly boring so they have to sensationalize to get people to watch. They are messing with people's lives doing that. Don't get me wrong, weather CAN be very dangerous but this is getting to be over the top. We have a local forecaster here that will say on a sunny, hot, dry day that he "can't rule out a rain storm"... My elderly mother-in-law and all her friends listen to this dude and cancel doctor appointments etc. One time he predicted 3 inches of snow overnight when it was supposed to be near 40 the entire night. The next day he said it indeed did snow 3 inches but that we didn't see it because it evaporated in the atmosphere before it hit the ground. I called the station and voiced a complaint.

Also, ever notice that IF THEY DON'T WARN OF A TORNADO you almost have to threaten them with bodily harm before they will admit one hit somewhere? We had one hit close to here a couple weeks ago (way out of the ordinary) and there were multiple videos and pix of this thing destroying stuff and they first deigned it happened until a TEAM of weather people from Cleveland came and said it was a tornado....It was on film going across the TV.....They kept saying "possible" tornado....

I know its an inexact science but the wording of their forecasts need to be tightened up.

Vintage1 & BVBob: This is why I mostly rely on Weather Underground for getting a reasonably-reliable fix on weather: cut out the talking heads and just give me hard data (and near-real-time radar), and I can largely suss out the rest. Even though we knew we weren't likely to see as much of a snowflake this time around, we realized we had no de-icer for the driveway and walk, so dent right out and got a bucket, because...sometimes you get surprised.

FWIW, we have members of two different snow sculpture teams that haven't made into town yet due to the storm Three of the team India members are stuck in New York and one German team member in Boston.

Keep an eye on the weather channel's forecasts. You'll see say, a third of the country covered in green which means it's gonna rain there, right?
WRONG! It means there's a possibility it may rain in that green area.

Spending half my time at a Jersey shore town makes me aware of the tourists, the economy, etc. One summer, maybe 5 or 6 years ago, the weather guys predicted rain every weekend. - Green on the weather map covered most of the state- and guess what? It didn't rain most weekends at the shore, tourist towns, but people didn't go because of the green on the maps. The town's economies suffered a lot that year and people were PISSED at the weather guys.

-17 C this morning and more snow coming

Snowfall Warning for Southern Ontario
Active for next 14 hours · Environment Canada
This alert has been updated.
Posted 2 hours ago
Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

Snow at times heavy is expected to develop later this morning or early afternoon and persist into tonight. Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 20 cm are likely, with the highest amounts expected closer to Lake Ontario where extra moisture from the lake may boost snowfall amounts.

There will likely be a significant impact on the commute both this evening and Tuesday morning.

The snowfall is the result of an Alberta Clipper that will cross the area.

###

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.

Despite all the clutching at their pearls by the local teevee weathermen, it's kinda boring here. ( https://modernvespa.com/forum/post2300234#2300234 )

Things ought to get a bit more interesting once the mercury (or whatever they use now) gets below -20F and the wind picks up. Popcorn emoticon

Cool! 8)

The dealer I'm getting my bike from said they recently sold a bike that was going to be used in North Pole. So I'm thinking it can handle a Toronto winter.

Pretty much the view out my window right now and I can guarantee you I will be putting it to the test. I've ridden the BMW in very high winds and can handle it. The snow will be a new twist though Honestly I can't wait!
