In the book/movie "The Eiger Sanction" our hero is rescued by climbing above one of the windows, then lowering down and being dragged in, after losing the retreat route and being unable to go forward.

I'm now wondering if I've ever actually seen the movie as that rings no bells.

In my defence, the thread title says 'useless fact' rather than 'little known fact' and up until the point where I typed it out it was indeed useless.

One persons useless fact is an others little known fact... Besides no hard rules here and feel free to go off the rails. Nothing wrong with just having fun and if someone learns something or discovers something all the better.

This reminds me: One of my all time favourites, the original Blues Brothers movie: A world record 103 cars were wrecked during filming.

It did not last though: The Junkman (1982) broke the record 2 years later, wrecking 150 cars and a plane. That record held for 2 decades, until over 300 cars were wrecked during the filming of The Matrix Reloaded (2003).

It is English. You can park in a driveway if you want. I would say the saying is wrong and just uses "on" to avoid repetition.

I also wonder if there was something special about that class and that teacher that inspired greatness.

In 1958 time travel was probably more believable than women astronauts.
