Glad I'm not a whale then! A six pack, pack of smokes and some condoms was expensive enough in my younger days. I can only imagine how much an 8 foot condom would have cost!
Doubt they're worried about family planning. Just think what they save on diapers!
True. But one drunken night and a daddy whale with a shotgun and you are together forever. Think Paradise by the Dashboard Light but you know... with whales. Managed to tie the whole music theme back in to this transgression.
SOMEBODY SAVE THIS THREAD!!!!
See what happens when JP disappears for two days?
Been camping with my Scouts. Enjoyed the vacation.
I'm willing to bet unprotected whale sex and Meatloaf didn't even come up once.

I'm now wondering if I've ever actually seen the movie as that rings no bells.

In my defence, the thread title says 'useless fact' rather than 'little known fact' and up until the point where I typed it out it was indeed useless.

One persons useless fact is an others little known fact... Besides no hard rules here and feel free to go off the rails. Nothing wrong with just having fun and if someone learns something or discovers something all the better.

According to Peter Fonda, four police bikes were customized for the film Easy Rider. One was burned during filming, and the other three were stolen before filming was completed.

Another useless fact.

Apparently the oil change for an LX only uses half a bottle of oil.

So in Indonesia the dealer gives you the "other" half which you can bring back for next time!
My dealer gave me the partial liter of oil left over from my BV's oil change. I paid for the whole bottle, so why wouldn't he give me the remainder that didn't go into the scoot?
When I was turning wrenches we would collect the leftover oil to use in our own cars.

This reminds me: One of my all time favourites, the original Blues Brothers movie: A world record 103 cars were wrecked during filming.

It did not last though: The Junkman (1982) broke the record 2 years later, wrecking 150 cars and a plane. That record held for 2 decades, until over 300 cars were wrecked during the filming of The Matrix Reloaded (2003).

Is that sort of like driving in a parking lot, and parking on a driveway?

Also sort of like French nouns. There really is no rhyme or reason as to which ones are masculine and which ones are feminine.

It is English. You can park in a driveway if you want. I would say the saying is wrong and just uses "on" to avoid repetition.

In 1958, astronauts Sally Ride and Kathryn Sullivan were in the same first grade class at Hayvenhurst Elementary School in Los Angeles, though neither of them remembered the other clearly.

I have had the fantasy of going back in time and telling the teacher, "Two of your students are going to grow up to become astronauts. And they're both girls."

I also wonder if there was something special about that class and that teacher that inspired greatness.

In 1958 time travel was probably more believable than women astronauts.

Three ducks are in a row, sleeping.

The one on the right leaves its right eye open and only the left hemisphere of its brain sleeps.

The one on the left does the same, in reverse.

The one in the middle closes both eyes and both halves of its brain sleep.

Afrikaans is a language developed in South Africa by European immigrants. It has roots in Dutch, Flemish and German.
It is unique in using a double negative e.g.
"Hy gaan nie werk toe nie."
or literally translated "He is not going to work not."

At its peak, it followed strict rules determined by academics, but these are being eroded by everyday use. In the sciences it produced very long words as the "language police" adopted the German practice of using a single word for a single concept instead of a phrase containing adjectives.

On a whim at uni, a few of us concocted a nonsense word to show the foolishness of the rule...

"Tienjaarigewitwatersrandsewaatlemoententoonstellingskommiteenotuleboekinskrywing."

In normal speak that would be:

"Decadal Witwatersrand watermelon exhibition committee minute book entry"

It seemed hilarious at the time...

The majority of the AA batteries that are depleted beyond usefulness (iMac says to change mouse or keyboard batteries, flashlight beam too weak, garage door opener range weaker, etc.) test at slightly over 1 volt vs fresh at 1.5 volts.

The Straight Poop
According to WiKi, the average human produces between 1/4 and 1 pound of poop every day.

If we assume the lower end (ahem), and multiply by 7.7 billion people on earth, well, you do the math.

Where does it all go?

Maybe this goes in the colonoscopy NSR, now that I think about it.

Sitting still for long periods as in say when flying is not the cause of deep vein thrombosis. It is the bad or poor quality air we breath that causes it.

Apparently.
