Just saw a ludicrously-low-mile '09 Scarabeo 500 at a reputable dealer for a reasonable price. Seems in good shape (and very good shape for its age), and owners I know spoke very highly of them.

Were I to get it, I'd expect to replace the tires and belt just on general principles.

That said, does anyone here know if there are any show-stopper no-longer-available parts? I'm mostly concerned with brake, electrical, and powertrain components here. Obviously, body panels might be scarce -- especially color-matched ones.

Thanks in advance!

AF1 racing in texas has all you need usually in a day or two. Thet also have a forum. We have 2 scarabeos, 07 and 09, live them. All our maintenance parts come from AF1.

I'd still have my 2009 Scarabeo 500 if it weren't for Harvey. No problem getting parts as AF1 and Scooterwest both carry them. Besides much of the scooter has the same parts as the BV and MP3 500s. That is the most comfortable touring scooter I've ever ridden. Seating position and suspension is much better the Burgman we had before it.

Thanks for the info! AF1 and their boards look like a good resource.

Parts are readily available. If you're talking about the one we just got we did a routine service and installed new tires. It won't be there but another few days, buyers are circling.

Mechanical parts yes, are available. Body parts and plastic bits, not so much. I owned one and wanted to keep it looking nice. Things like trim pieces have faded and also gotten brittle with age and it was a challenge to find what I needed. But in the end, I did find some.

I've owned quite a few Aprilia scooters and never had an issue finding parts. Like already stated AF1 is a great source. My 150 and 250 were pretty easy to find used parts for on eBay. I bought body panels and even a wheel there for those scoots. I've got a new seat coming from Italy through AF1 and it's taking a long time to get here but no rush since its a cosmetic replacement. Everything else I've ordered gets here fairly quickly. I do find the 500ie parts harder to find used than the Beo 150/250. I think more were imported here.
What, no pics of the bike?

I should have known you'd have done that before putting it on the block! And I have no doubt I'm not the only one interested.

Didn't think to snap any while I was there.
It's silver, with a Givi top case and a two-part medium windscreen (Faco, I think; didn't check). Seat is black. There's a slight scrape on the left mirror, and the final letter "o" is missing from the Scarabeo logo on the left side. My guess is that those are just from storage mishaps rather than a drop.

Otherwise, it's a clean non-touring model (that is, not the one with the handlebar/windshield assembly that sits flush with the legshield).

If you come across a Scaraabeo 250 give it a try. I liked my Beo 250 better than my 500ie in almost every way. No under seat storage though but the 16" rear wheel was a big advantage so I'd call that a wash. Very capable scoot that handled wonderfully and pretty easy to work on for a scoot. I wish I'd have kept mine. There's one listed on CL for $1700. I'd try to get that for $12-1300.

It's ok -- I should have called earlier.
There will be other opportunities.

But thanks nonetheless!

That's a good thought! If I didn't already have a scooter in that class (Burgman 200) I'd jump on it.

I was figuring the 'Beo 500 would let me keep some fast-freeway and long-haul touring miles off my Burgman 650, eventually becoming its replacement when the big Suzuki's transmission wears out.

The 650's still got a few years left in it, I expect* -- I can wait.

I've got a BV 500 I'm planning on selling. Alli maintenance done to schedule and once the snow is gone so I could get it down from Breckenridge I could even be talked into delivering it; )

By the time the snow clears up, up there, I might even have room in the garage for it! (I got the impression that it's been a good winter for snow this year.)

I'll definitely keep that in mind, and will follow up on this later.

227 inches so far this season. Earliest opening of all the peaks for asking in the history of Breckenridge. If they can get first service approval they hope to be open through Memorial Day.

My brother lives in San Diego so I don't mind a ride back to California. From Breck you can visit several national parks along the way
