For some odd reason, I can drink bottles of IPA or Lager, and feel fine.

Drink one bottle of dark beer such as stout or a Guinness, and I feel the need to take a long nap shortly afterwards.

Ah, the mysteries of beer....

Two words ... bungee cord. Also keeps the critters out.

We are now having a heat wave of 13 degrees with some sun. Big Boy 3 finally gets to go out and enjoy a romp in the snow.

Problem with the bungee cord solution is the lid will remain shut while the automated arm comes and tips the bin into the truck. Or break something as it or the bin fails at the attachment point.

The trucks used by our trash collection provider, in our geographic region, have the automated arm on the trucks, however, the driver still has to get out and place the bin in location for the arm to lift it. It is actually one of the largest providers of waste collection, nonetheless.

FWIW, during the polar vortex, customers were advised to not place trash out if it was not necessary. Most everyone on our street followed that recommendation. Gotta love texts between neighbors.

Nobody told us. Dragged mine out through the snow from behind the garage in the coldest time, two days ago. They're still sitting there...but then again all the neighbors did the same.

We just went over to the mechanical pick up. The only real difference so far is that the containers have to be in our driveway and make a good target for my wife's car.

I just toss my garbage/recycling down a tri-sorter and it's done. One advantage to condo living I guess.

We have Advanced Disposal. They didn't tell us nuttin' and I even checked their website.

Funny, my daughter lives 10 hours north of Montreal (her second year, and she has no plans of leaving anytime soon) and she called to tell me that us Americans are wimpy.... she has -40 wind chills every winter.

I reminded her that we don't see those temps often, and that most of us do not have the gear to endure that kind of weather (super warm fur hat, fur lined boots, snow/cold pants). She, of course, reminded me that her 8 year old students walk to and from school all year long.

Our rubbish collection was a day late this week...

nothing to do with weather, was 28°C [82°F] that day with a humid northerly... more about Monday being a public holiday for our provincial anniversary day, which incidentally was actually Tuesday.

But I guess you didn't really want me to mention the temperature...

It all depends on what you're used to.
Personally, I'm fine at -30F.
I dress for it, certainly, but, well that's just 'the gear'.

40s mixed with frozen roadways and temp drops below 32f. It's good to be happy at home. We hunker down, play with the cats, and reinforce our status online.

It keeps the riff raff out.

It was 45 F here in Queenstown NZ this morning. A frosty 65 F right now.

40+ here, I think. The foot of snow we got a week ago is just about gone.

That would happen all the time on cold days when I was working at the dealership That's how I knew it was just a little low.

Last week when I stopped at the donut shop their pipes had frozen and they had no coffee. Today their furnace is broken and the whole place is closed.

Holy Cow. Now we're talking weather crisis !

Hope they get up and running soon or you'll be lacking a scooting destination.

Except for being in a more modern metal cabinet and the microphone being more modern, believe it or not we were still using that phone system in the 1970s in a police headquarters that was only built in 1969.

Soldered up a set of heating pads for my bikes batteries. But now it's just to iced and dicey to ride. Argh.
