40 years eh?

A movie watched age 15, that affected so much of my next 40 years, people, places and a general feeling of belonging to something pretty bloody good!

Next to my wife and family, scooters have been a happy constant in my life, thanks in no small part to Franc Roddam and Pete Townshend 8)

I thought it was OK but not top of my movie list which is a bit ironic considering I was a Mod. Paul Weller and The Jam were a much bigger influence on me especially the In the City album.

Yes the soundtrack is great. I was and still am a big The Who fan.

Sting was the giveaway for me, otherwise could have missed this one.

Have to confess, that those years I remember more from AC/DC's outcome... Highway to Hell just published, Back in Black coming soon....and yeah, have to confess, I still have ACDC in Spotify - some things don't change 8)

Saw the For those about to Rock tour as a kid. Awesome! I can still see Angus running back and forth across the catwalk. Also saw the Iron Maiden the Nature of the Beast tour. I can still see the giant Eddie on stage in my head. Both great shows for the spectacle.

FWIW we're doing a company outing in a bit for the new stage show Sting is doing. I don't really know what it is but it is at one of the main theatres in the city that the does the musicals and plays. I think it also cost me a small fortune....

'In The City' was a great album which announced the arrival of The Jam to the new wave scene, but by far their most influential work was 'All Mod Cons' which reflected the disaffected British youth of the late 70's and was inspirational for the second 'MOD' generation. It also helped that inside the album cover it had a schematic diagram of a Vespa!

I had an older cousin who got me into the Jam. After hearing them I went out and bought 'In the City' and 'This is a Modern World' on cassette and the 7" vinyl of 'Start' which was a massive hit in the UK. It had a great B-side which didn't get much airplay.

I don't think I'm letting the Vespas out fo the barn here now that the post is a day old....

We're talking about Quadrophenia. The movie was very influential in the Mod community thus the references to The Jam. The Jam were a very influential band of the Mod revival movement that was ongoing at the time Quadrophenia came out.

The Jam I think broke up only 3 or 4 years after the movie came out. Paul Weller (front man) went on to for The Style Council which was a more contemporary band.

It's a photo of most of the cast of "Quadrophenia," a famous, early 70's movie about the Mod movement whose members exclusively rode scooters. Most of the film's music was done by the English rock band "The Who," from an album of the same name.

The photo was taken this week at a dinner to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the movie's release.

goes round in circles
I am not a huge fan of the film and find it a bit hard to watch but it does highlight well the boredom of parts of society in the UK that live for the weekend. This was really amplified in the 90s when rave culture kicked in. Here is a small homage to the film in this 90s music video:

Hard to watch ?

It's painful an embarrassing as are so many movies based around scooters and motorcycles unless they are documentaries.

We hosted Spotify in our Data Center before they were introduced to the US. Had there beta test site. They stayed for about 5 years then got their own data center space and techs and didn't need our services anymore once they were established.
The guys I worked with were really nice.

Really? That sucks. My home ISP has offered it a few times (I think I get it actually) but I go with Apple Music because well.. wife. Way easier as we are in the Apple walled garden at home. Don't look at me... I don't care what we use but keeping the wife happy is worth it. I have YouTube Premium as well which is pretty similar and Spotify may need to worry if Google goes after them. The music service through Google is pretty good plus you get all the added YouTube premium stuff.

I don't remember the movie even playing in Flagstaff in '79, but I do remember the quad sound systems that came out - and disappeared - around '74 or 5.

Cool pic 8) Good luck getting that many mods together now. I remember back in the day when we would all meet at the local pub Friday night and there would just be a row of scoots in front. Now all I can find is a scoot meetup once in a while at a Dairy Queen :-\ Not quite the same but on the bright side I'm sure less drunk scootering....

We had that many at the last 2 Mods N Rockers in Toronto. The Wolf Run Rally Deux in Kingston this year will have that easily .

Join the Barking Mad Scooter Club's Facebook page to see when our runs are coming up. We have at least one run a month and frequently pop into the Sunday Coffee run at Kensington market that Toronto Vintage club has.
