I have been looking for a rack to secure small luggage items in Sunny's foot well (my GTS) but all the standard options are costly, especially for South Africans.
So in typical Saffer character, I went looking for something else I could use instead... lo and behold - a POORATECH solution to the problem...

Four slightly longer screws and four stainless steel D-ring clamps.
Total cost... around US$5.

With minimal inconvenience I can use it to double the range on my GTS for my upcoming trip.

So do you attach a bungee cord to connect to the D-rings?

Bungee cords tend to come in two lengths...
too short and too long!

I use ROK straps - a combination of adjustable straps with a bungee end.
Otherwise I just use straps or nylon chord.

Not a new idea, I tried it on one of our scoots before the 2014 cannonball. I wasn't terribly pleased with it. While I appreciated the simplicity of the solution the D rings were under the edges of the can which man it hard to use without something to raise the can above the rings. YMMV

I'll stick with the raised Classic Rack footwell rack that doubles as a cup holder.

cdwise, I wasn't claiming a patent on the idea, merely posting what I had thought out. I am sure many ideas have been tried in the past by others.
We can all benefit from one other's experiences and discoveries.
Posting them here is a merely a way of recording and retaining them for others.

BTW, did you post a report on your 2014 Cannonball ride?
Please reference it so we can share in it ?

I believe that Cheryl kept a blog during the 2014 Scooter Cannonball Run.

I did as well on Rocket and Me.

It starts here, with some prep before this post, if anyone is interested in checking it out.

http://billleuthold.blogspot.com/2014/06/day-one-prince-george-to-smithers.html

It goes on for several posts, almost one per day.

The run, especially the two days riding to Hyder and the six days to Colorado, was magical.

There are many threads here on Modern Vespa for each of the cannonballs. A search using the term cannonball will find them. It was reading the 2010 and 2012 ones that got me to participate in 2014 and 2016. These are the "official" threads for each year but there are plenty of other threads of all types discussing the various cannonballs, prep and recaps.

Scooter Canonball Movie modernvespa.com/forum/topic132252

You will find links to other rider's blogs in each of those threads as well.

The old Scooter Cannonball forum isn't really working so finding the blog links there is a bit difficult. The replacement forum doesn't have the archive on it but is at http://scootercannonballrun.com Planning for 2020 is there too.

Feb31st has put time lapse videos of most of the cannonballs (he's ridden in almost all of them except when an injury sidelined him at the last minute in 2016) on youtube. Seach using scooter cannonball and you should find them.

Most of my ride reports are on my blog http://cheryldwise.com/ but I've been bad about updating it the last couple of years. It also includes our rides in Australia/New Zealand (Nov-Dec 2016),. England and Wales (May 2017). I should update with photos from meeting up with the 2018 cannonball riders last summer and the waterfall ride in Cairns Australia last October.

Enjoy, BTW I didn't think you were claiming your idea was new. I just wanted to point out the downside which is fastening straps/bungies through the Drings.

awesome thought
Great though and the price is right. Im in the states and I was thinking about that floorboard chrome cup holder. I like seeing other options.
