I originally asked this in the "+ 6MPH Due To Flyscreen" thread, but didn't get an answer (there are so many posts on MV now that a thread can drop off the first page in a day!).

Has anyone used this flyscreen from Scooterwest.com? Or one like it? I'd like to know if it reduces airflow on the hands (thinking of winter already...bummer). I don't want a full-size windscreen, but would like to find something that will help keep my hands warmer.

Thanks!

I had to walk out and check my small flyscreen from Piaggio. Mine doesn't extend out like that one pictured.

It looks like it would block a little of the windflow if you grip closer to the headset.

I haven't seen it in pictures (that I can recall) here, but on Modern Buddy a lady up in Washington recently had wind guards put on her buddy. I thought they didn't look that bad.

Instead of a fly screen, may I suggest a pair of these:

http://www.windstopper.com/remote/Satellite?c=fabrics_product_c&childpagename=windstopper_en_US%2Ffabrics_product_c%2FDetail&cid=1183953911792&packedargs=gender%3DMen%26prodtype1%3DMensGlovesAndMittens%26prodtype2%3DMensGlovesAndMittensGloves%26seed%3D0&pagename=SessionWrapper

I picked up a pair two years ago and won't ride without them. They're warm, completely wind proof and you maintain a good degree of manual dexterity.

Thanks for the feedback. I will consider the wind guard thing, but with the flyscreen
(and in my "perfect world" screnario) I liked the idea of:
- some reduced wind resistance
- minor speed boost (the "+6 MPH" thread)
- serving as a wind guard for the hands
- cool look

If I can't find a flyscreen that keeps wind off the hands I'll look closer
at the wind guard thing.

Thanks again!

Kevin

My old GT200 didn't have a wind screen. There was contant pressure on my chest and I definitely felt the cold on my hands. My new GTS has the Vespa short wind screen. It doesn't extend to the sides as much as the one pictured. It does block most of the wind off my hands. Even without gloves, my hands haven't gotten cold on the cooler morning that I've ridden. I hope this helps you.

Vespa flyscreen doesn't help the hands. Try the midsized Isotta. It is the size that almost looks verging on the ungainly but it's well made and covers the handlebars and makes the GTSie go much faster and the wind go over your head!

I doubt it, but then again, this board has people saying without a doubt that a windscreen adds a whopping 6mph to their top speed. With that in mind, I'd estimate that a windscreen will keep your hands 12 degrees warmer than the rest of your body.

I had that exact windscreen on my old ET4 and your hands are not gonna feel warm and toasty behind that thing. It hardly blocks any wind.

My Hands are freeken Cold...
That really not true its closer to 5.75 Degrees warmer. But thats figured without the wind chill factor that could totally drop it down to 2.375 Degrees lower. Of course all of this is baised on gluves with an R-Value of 2.67

I have the same screen on my GTS it might cut the wind a bit to the hands, but not much. It does give you more top end.

Kevin---perhaps heated handgrips as an option? I vaguely recall seeing them being sold somewhere....

One of the guys in one of our clubs here has some BMW handguards mounted on his GT. They look great, and he says they work even better.

Thanks for the feedback, paddylamb and everyone.

paddylamb - At higher speeds does it redirect an inordinate amount of wind to your head or chest?
