As you know my new Cafe Racer arrives in a couple of weeks time and I'm looking for a traditional leather jacket to complement it.

My Richa isn't really of the period nor is my Alpinestar so as both are going to look out of place so I'm looking for a used traditional leather jacket with a 44 - 46 chest.

I'll buy it and pay for the shipping to the UK so if you've got one paying around please drop me a line.

Colours and armour are good but not essential.

Motorcycle Closeouts dot com has a sale right now. 5 US Dollars flat rate on shipping. They tend to have good deals and you can search by leather, color, price and other filters. Maybe send it to one of us here in the Colonies and we can ship it to you.

I ordered one from Allstate leather in Spring, TX.
Starts at $70 plus shipping. Not the best cut of leather at that price but pretty happy overall. I got the $119 one with zip -out lining. Add $100 or $200 and upgrade the leather. The workmanship is good and features are great. It's now 3 years old and in great shape. I expect it to last a long time.

I'll check out Doc's Leather's for you, it's just a little bit up the street for me. It's a huge store and last I was I there I'm pretty sure I saw used.

You have to love the signage.... Really nice guys there, pretty sure it was Doc I had a long conversion with the last time I was in.

I've always found classic leather jackets on ebay for great prices, in excellent condition. I just got a Hein Gericke for $90 that looks like new. Lots of classic "zippered" ones, too.

Sorry I missed that you wanted used. I didn't find much in my local area. It defaulted me down to the San Francisco area but I found this if you're interested: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/clo/d/lafayette-icon-black-leather-motorcycle/6822617324.html

I thought the idea was you bought your jacket new then fell off as much as humanly possible until the jacket looked suitably worn in. I have one jacket that I must of come off a dozen times in and now really looks the part - everything on the jacket is scuffed to hell, the arm is coming off at the shoulder and I have a tyre mark running up the back of the jacket caused somehow by my own motorbike hitting me as I slid down the road. I'd wear it all the time but it's not even close to waterproof.

I've had this jacket since 1979. It's never been cleaned other than when I got caught in a rain storm while riding. The stitching has rotted to the point where everytime I wear it, something starts coming apart. It has been retired to a place of honor... it hangs in my garage. Laughing emoticon

Bought my leather jacket back in 1994, shop had lost the longing when they evacuated the bikes and moved stuff before a flood, so it never had that lining but it's brown, and fits me and was a good price, I clean it now and then, take care of it and now own 2 weights of modern motorcycle safety wear that see more use. I don't wear a jacket for imagine, I wear it for protection as my human body does not want any more damage than it already has.
If it's all about 'how you look' my feeble old brain wonders if you are really riding or just posing at the local pubs. . ,.

Actually the best idea I ever heard was at Queen's College in Kingston Ontario. The engineering students there get leather jackets as part of their first semester, but are not allowed to touch them with their hands until they get back to their dorm, so they kick their jackets home as part of the tradition of not touching them. It really does give a brand new jacket a "lived in" patina.

And the furthest you've ridden in a day is ?

Are you are truly as vacant or as blind as your last comment suggests ?

See above, unlike you I actually ride, not ride as far as my local bar and talk about it.

What I'm buying next may well be a phase so rather than be as stiff as a board while I get through this change in direction I'm looking for something used.

338 posts and white wall tyres. Hilarious.

Thanks to my friends at Google, I know that Fonzie wore a brown leather bomber jacket, not a Highway Patrol (or CHP) jacket (like the Ramones wore).

I actually have 2 CHP jackets, though I have gained some weight in the intervening years since I got them. One was a used Vanson, heavy as hell but very nice, and another one that belonged to my Dad... he gave it to me when he had to stop riding in his 70's. Each has some wear along the edges, and I like it that way.

He's the story,

Actually, fuck it I can't be bothered to tell the story about the jacket because I no longer care.

However I will say this.

If you think I'm better than not to respond to an implication that I would pose when the above "total" is so obviously further and father than yours will ever be then you are truly mistaken.

There are actually 2 rides missing from that list because there's not enough room but hey I'm splitting hairs because the accusation is laughable.

Maggie, look before you leap then ride around on your trinket.

White seat and white wall tyres and I'm the poser ?

Hi Bill, it doesn't matter if the leather is knackered, you can always wear a mesh one with armour underneath it.
Have a mosey around on Portobello road, on a saturday there's good lethers on the stalls under the westway flyover. Nearest tube Ladbroke Grove. Also a couple of vintage shops north of there and on Golbourne rd. I got a pig skin mod style bomber there and a sharp two buttoned suede jacket, both for £50 last year and mint.
The leathers there go from anything like Lewis Leathers, Richa, Avirex and All Saints as well as ex army stuff. So a range from genuine biker stuff to poseur rock star. Have a shufti.
At least try them on as I've found that leathers need to be snugger than textile jackets. Also proper Lewis Leathers are longer at the back as you need a bit more length when your crouching over trying to squeeze out a ton.
If you don't want to go full rocker then a brown leather is a bit more vintage / hipster. Gass gts 250 silver machine

I have Hein Gericke Leather Jacket and Pants in black from the Mid 80's.
If I remember the Jacket would be around a 48" shoulder and pants are 38 waist. If they they are your size they are yours.

This is the Jacket style if I remember right, been years since I have taken it out of the closet.
