Next job on my VBB restoration is the speedo drive - the cable was missing when I got the bike so I have no idea how it goes back together.

Been looking at the parts for a while (photos attached for reference) but I still don't understand how they go together at all and how the speedo drive itself spins the inner speedo cable?

I get the Speedo drive fits into the hub and gently rock the front wheel to line it up etc - The then silver O piece and the larger brass screws onto the hub but then i'm at a loss.

Help!!!!

Once you get the parts assembled as you stated -- slide the thumb nut over the cable end then slide the little brass collar with the split on. The little collar acts as a compression fitting when the thumb nut is tightened onto the big brass part so the cable stays put. Knurled part on the bottom, Ridges part up on the speedo.

I hope that make sense, thats the best I can figure to explain it.
I hope it helps.

Ok that makes sense - I thought I had tried that and to be honest, wasn't sure how it secured the cable and the plastic speedo drive then spun the wire.

I will try like you said and report back
