I'm trying to figure out if the shift cross on my P150S need replacing or not. I have removed the selector box and when the gearbox is in neutral the selector rod moves in and out about 5mm. when it is any of the gears the selector rod is solid with no free play. Is this normal? is there a way to check if the shift cross is worn without splitting the cases. I have only ridden it a few times around the yard and it is quite hard to find gears. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers Coops
Hi Coops, the only way to check to see if it's worn is to slit the cases. But don't worry, there's about a 99.9% chance that it's worn anyhow...at least for every motor that i've split in the past. Save yourself some time and order up new gaskets, seals, bearings, and a shift cross now. That way you can save time by not waiting on parts to arrive. Oh, and don't be surprised if you have to replace some of the loose transmission gears as well.
Also, if it's difficult to shift, you might just need to adjust the shift cables or possibly lube up the shifter tube. Riding around just in the yard might be to small of an area to get an acurate read on the scooters shifting. Puts some gloves and a helmet on, and try it out on the street and see if it is still hard to shift.
interesting! I removed the selector box and popped the spring out with my finger nail and just pushed it back in. I'm thinking maybe is the wrong spring?
