I just finished flushing the coolant on my 300 Super. Every time I work on my scooter I feel good. Yes, I did procrastinate the first time I did it. The secret for me is planning. I rely on this forum and Motorsport's Robot (on YouTube.) I take my time and enjoy the task at hand as much as possible. I figure if someone else can do it, then I can. Working with your hands is good for you.

I find servicing bikes to be somewhat therapeutic. Ask my wife. That's when she usually hits me up for agreeing on costly things.

This sounds very similar to the thread I started about getting a colonoscopy
Mind you with that I think it would be very hard to do your own maintenance... |

Harbinger....
An older veteran gentleman, had the unusual habit of licking his glass eyeball before reinsertion. After a sudden, violent coughing incident, the glass eye was unfortunately swallowed while gasping for air. A visit to the proctologist went awry when the doc said, "I've performed thousands of rectal views, this is the 1st time one looked back". |

More serious now, Cloud, I agree.
It's just satisfying to accomplish things that are outside your usual knowledge and routine. My working life was looking through a magnifying glass and later on a microscope. Hammering on metal, and doing sometimes dirty work on your Vespa is indeed a good thing. Today, I built in a new clutch and bell, changed the air filter, and checked belt and variator and roller weights. All is good. I'm quite happy. Cheers. |

I so agree that the Scooterwest/Robot are excellent. I also like MicBersgma's videos. His communication skills astound me actually.

You beat me to it, Harbinger. That's exactly what I was thinking when I read the thread title. I guess great minds think alike?!

I do too find working on scooters therapeutic. And I also take my time while doing it. I think the secret to my success so far is MV and their collaborators. 5 years ago I was doing it too much. Nowadays I keep a strict schedule based on Grease's advice among other members. JimC has been a big help, Judy (RIP) was great. When I think about it really hard my skills don't hold a candle to 90% of members.

Nurses have great stories too. I would not be at all surprised to find out that someone had done their own scope or had a 'friend' help them. |

I'm sure the people that work on my bikes find it very therapeutic. I am very vigilant abut the maintenance but pay people to do it. I'd like to do it myself and that I am serious about. When I semi retire in a few years I'll make sure there is a good work area. I live in condo land so you can't do any real work on your bikes. There is a shop setup you can rent by the hour to work on bikes with everything you'd want but that seems like a hassle. |
