They are hard to read, but i'll post the pics for a second opinion.

the frame # looks to be VSC1T 23196 which on the scooter help site shows '66 180 super sport (attached the frame pic here)

the motor # looks like VBC1M 22912 which comes up on scooter help as a 150 Super Motor... again, some of the prefix numbers are hard to read but i am open to learning so if i am wrong i appreciate the input/info.
This bike was soooo screwed with.

Can't make out the frame prefix, but if it says "VSC1T" it was either altered or cut off another bike and welded onto this one. The scoot is definitely not a 1966 180 Super Sport (a highly desirable model with several distinctive features that this scoot does not have).

The engine number is a 1966 150 Super, but again, not what the seller represented and what you thought you were buying.

Would be interesting to see what the title/registration papers say.

But any way you slice it, what the seller sold you wasn't a "1968 Vespa". You were defrauded, plain and simple. It's a bunch of parts pieced together from various old junked Asian scooters covered in shiny paint with some cheap shiny reproduction bits added.

Go back to the seller. Give him one more chance to take back the scoot and refund your money. If he refuses, let him explain his scam to a judge.

At that price I strongly suspect the seller knew what the bike was (a bodge). Had he believed it was an actual fully restored 150 Super he'd have been asking more. The only question is whether he was similarly duped by a previous seller or a full and willing participant in this mess. Just an opinion of course.

it looks to me the frame vin area has been welded with another frame VIN. I have seen a few similar one.

the motor is probably legit, and a legit piece of junk at the same time. it's hard to say without further inspection.

the frame however is a blatant cut and weld job or straight up restamped.

pointing this out to the seller with a strongly worded letter from a lawyer should give you some leverage.

here's the thing with small claims: it takes up your time, it's inconvenient and even if you do win the judgement then you have to collect, on your own time and your own dime.

If we can take something away from all of this is that bodges get us so worked up that we start acting crazy! Makes us angry.

$7500. I can understand that. I think it depends what you are aiming for. It depends how much work you do yourself. If you are completely restoring with body and paint then I'd say that is fair. If you are going custom racer with quality parts then again... easy to go through that. You could burn a lot more.

There are so many ways to do so many things in this Vespa world. Original paint, perfect restorations, cut downs, rats, street racers, side cars, electric, electric sidecars!!! And then there are the models.

There is no one number. That's why this shit is so damn cool. Subculture within subculture.

One thing I think is true tho... it's very difficult to recoup the $ you put into a bike when you sell it. Maybe the sought after models that you got a deal on... but otherwise you do it for yourself.

So each to their own.
