One of my Battery Tender Juniors is about 8 years old. It was malfunctioning. It's LED would initially turn red and then eventually go green for a second or two and then go to red again, then green for a second, then red, then.... It never stayed green. I knew something was wrong.

I searched YouTube for a video on repairing the Battery Tender Junior. The recommendation was to replace the electrolytic capacitor on the circuit card. A new capacitor cost me $0.97. It took 15 minutes to get the tender apart, pull out the circuit card, get my soldering iron out, remove the bad capacitor, install the new one and reassemble.

Viola! Works like new. New Battery Tender Juniors are about $25 on Amazon.

I'll let the video tell the technical story and give the instructions.

Best

Capacitors are known to be the first things to fail in electronic circuits. So it makes sense.

Agreed and it's an electrolytic cap that's even more prone to failure than other technologies.

Excellant! Thanks for the video, very useful. I hope you put that piece of red cardboard back in your demonstration tender...

I think they have a lifetime warranty....but you have to ship it to them, and I believe you have to pay $10, and basically they send you a new one.
By the time I got a small box and paid the post office, plus the fee, I could just buy a new one.

I've had 5 Battery Tenders and eventually they all failed. I went to a different brand (NoCo)
