Hot Dog Johnny's in Buttsville, NJ. It was a great day for a ride and a hot dog! Pictured is my 2005 GT 200 that I bought over the winter for a cool $1K. She runs terrific!

$1k?! Steal of the Century!
Hope you enjoyed that dog. Me, I've given up big bikes and long rides with a hotel thrown in half way for shorter day rides with something good to eat in the middle. Ride on to get my Eat on! is my new motto. |

Great looking scoot and now I'm homesick for Hot Dogs from that area.
Born and raised in Hawthorne and spent a lot of time at Clixes eating fried hot dogs with mustard and sourkraut, Chili Burgers, and Pizza Burgers along with malts and french fries. And I just took a look at the sign and saw Birch Beer. You can't get that very often down here. |

I remember going there once as a kid. At 10 years old, Buttzville was the most hilarious thing ever.

that was a sweet deal on that scooter, and seeing that hot dog sign changed my plans for dinner.

We almost always ride our scooters or mopeds there and get more looks and questions than the motorcycle guys! It's a great place to bring a scooter club for lunch. |

I took my GTS there a few times. The stretch of 46 between Hackettstown and Hot Dog Johnny's is nice riding. as is 31 south where it meets 46 to I-78.

Been there several times both via car and motorcycle. My sister lives in Oxford.
My kids also laughed at Butzville. My son had a Dr. Weiner when he was about 5 years old. He laughed at that for a couple years. |

Mopedlar: Down this way in Joisey, it's the Windmill for dogs (haven't been myself yet, but as an NYC expat, I've only been on this side o' the Hudson four years). Congrats on that GT 200...perhaps our paths might cross this year?

I'm southeast of you in Rutt's Hut territory. But I'm definitely taking my BV350 to Johnnie's sometime this spring for a dog! I've never been there and you've whetted my appetite!

I went to Montclair State College in the '80's, so I'm very familiar with your neck of the woods. Great Italian food in Bloomfield and Belleville.

I'm near Rutt's too if anyone wants to meet up there sometime. They usually have an informal Wednesdays bike nights. Mostly big bikes though. Also a couple of organized sponsored events each year.

I know some of you Jersey guys also visit NYC. When you return, if you take the GWB, you gotta detour just a few blocks south on the Jersey side and visit Hiram's for hot dogs. it's been there since the 1930's. I've been going since the 60's. Although I don't suggest scooterin' and drinking, the beer is ice cold.

Do they actually drink buttermilk at fast food in NJ?
We make cornbread with it like a religion here in KY and I used to take a drink now and then when I worked in a supermarket from leakers. There was an article in the NYT's this week about this chicken place in the city that is famous for their fried chicken, Whoopi, etc. eat the stuff. My wife and other family on my side has soaked chicken in buttermilk for years, no need to travel for that? Who's hot dog do they sell at Johnny's? Many these days are not good!, no matter how you fix them. |

I was once an employee of Ohse Meats Inc. in Topeka, KS. One of our many products was weiners/hot dogs and a large variety of smoked and luncheon meats.
I was a foremen there for a couple of years and got to know hotdogs well. I ran the pkg & shipping rooms in a ~ 400 employee plant. The hot dog peeler was one of my nemesis machines in the pkg. area. Our skilled trades were non-union and I worked on that contraption often. In those days poultry wasn't part of the recipe for most any of those products, in fact zero poultry did we use in the 1960's. |
