I need to figure out some way to carry a few thing in the back of the Prima.
I do have a rack back there, but I need something with an open top big enough to stuff things. Groceries and such, like a backpack when my wife and I go to the YMCA for a swim. I don't want to burden my wife carrying the backpack.. I don't want the big bubble carrier.
Something like a milk crate but slightly bigger. Anybody got any idea. I googled for ideas but did not see anything much.Something that I can remove in a pinch.

BIGGER than a milk crate...?
I used an old grocery store hand basket (without handle) I found in a skip.
Cable tied to the carrier.
Works like a charm !

My wife commutes on a LX 150 to her full time job at a elementary school and her part time job teaching water aerobics at our local Y. She bungees a fairly large duffel bag to the rear rack and hangs everything else from the seat hook. Not a solution for groceries but our Vespa shopping doesn't include more than what will fit in the cat carrier and on the front hook. Walmart has stackable crates that look like milk crates but are larger (and flimsier). A regular milk crate fits inside them.

I'm a big fan of an open basket, over sized and odd shaped items can be easily carried that way with the use of a bungie net.
Yes, milk crates can look tacky, I had an oversized (13"x18") one that was a similar blue color as my scoot. When that started to fall apart I got a garage storage basket at Lowe's that I modified and mounted.

Husky 5 Gal. Latch and Stack Tote
Thanks guys.
I ended up buying the Husky 5 gallons for $6.80 , cheaper than a $9.00 milk crate and better looking. The latch top is strong. I secured the box with 6 big zip ties on the rack. I like it, I can use it without the top also. My helmet even fits in. So this fixes my storage problem. I do carry a bunch of tools in the bucket under the seat.

It's super easy to find a number of bicycle baskets that you can mount on an existing Vespa rack. They make a lot of cool mesh options with detachable hooks. I use the following one for market day in town. I do have a sissy bar so that does help with the attachment. However, the dimensions of traditional rear bike rack aren't that far off from the Vespa rear rack and with some ubolts, pipe clamps, or zip ties, you are good to go. Just note, if you opt for zips, you will need quite a few to be safe and check them periodically.

Got any drainage holes in the bottom for your wet clothes? A few drilled holes in the low spots are easy to do

That is the rig the guy had that sold me my GTV... Kept it for a short while but was always afraid it would give way with a load and metal to metal wasn't going to be good on the chrome rack in the long run.

I suggest a waterproof duffel and just strap it to the rack. you can get different sizes, they don't scratch and you can take them into the grocery or pool if need be.

The lovely ladies that I flirt with over Friday coffee in our Vespa club
became image conscious and disapproving of my old hand basket.
Bowing to peer pressure, I have now ordered this...

I do have holes drilled in the bottom for the zip ties, but water is not an issue for me. I've done my share of wet soaked riding. No more, that's what cars are made for.

No, they're not Capetonians.
They are all local Pretoria girls.
One (I recently discovered) is married to a guy I was at school with.

It pays to be in the girls' good books.
They will always make space for you between them at a crowded table.

Comie Trunk
Added this today. Comie 48L "Scooter Trunk". $51 from Amazon delivered.

Honeycomb plastic bottom plate secured to my luggage rack with provided W shaped metal straps, hex screws, and thick washers inside and out. Nylock nuts.

Front tongue on the box engages a slot at the front of the mount. A knurled knob/screw locks it down at the back from inside and makes it detachable. Spring loaded handle for carrying.

10 foot paint job on the top portion. Thick plastic body, top overlaps bottom for a decent seal. Added some SOLAS tape on the back and sides.

Keyed, spring loaded lock of dubious quality, but it's just for hiding my helmet at the grocery store or getting coffee.

Not a basket, and not clever like the plastic tote with the lid, but I like it!

Thanks very much! It's an "AK Wall Art Warhawk Shark Tiger Vinyl Sticker" from Amazon.

Thinking of doing WWII USAAC roundels on the haunches and squadron insignia from my USAF career on the leg shields.

Stay dry. Take care.
