Hello
I need to replace one of steering rods (no 11 on diagram https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/en/gilera-parts/2008-fuoco-500-e3-scooters/fork-steering-tube-steering-bearing-unit
666901, COMPLETE CARDAN JOINT https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/en/piaggio-parts/666901 )
The thing is that's terribly expensive Crying or Very sad emoticon (1/10 price of my bike )
If anyone met with substitutes, or tried to regenerate this item?
Best regards

Try and find a cheaper supplier or go to a Piaggio dealer. Part costs 67,00EUR (including 24% tax) in Greece per one item. It's your steering and you shouldn't risk your life by installing anything other than the original part...

That's huge difference, in Poland that cost 214EUR :O
Fuoco and MP3 aren't popular here.

Piaggio part number is 666901 and as far as i am aware its the same all through the MP3 range and the fuoco. In the UK the price is £146.57p including 20% VAT. There are some used one's on ebay UK look at 192849198143 and 283418335890 there alot cheaper and ask if the sellers will post to Poland. The other way is to buy the part new from Greece ,i have bought parts from Greece as they were alot cheaper new than buying in the UK .

You are right, it's wise to buy a new part.
Can you give me website or email address?

I notice that for later models the rubber boot can be ordered separately so if you can find a way of repairing the joint, possibly using a secondhand one, you should be able to repack with grease and use a new boot. The track control rod keeps the wheels pointing in the same direction so it is important, but that doesn't mean that a little play would necessarily lead to it a disastrous total disconnection.

This is an authorized Piaggio dealer in Thessaloniki. I don't know if they ship parts outside Greece, but give them a try...

Their emails are: eshop@kalemis.gr & info@kalemis.gr

The relevant Piaggio tech memo about the steering can be found here:

Thanks Jim that's interesting. So the original ( relatively cheap ) ball joints have been superseded by more elaborate hooks joints. My guess is that about 1 in 10 typical dealers workshops would have the capability of correctly implementing the toe in adjustment procedures using that complicated tool, and I'm probably being optimistic.
I think as a home mechanic I would try to set toe in at zero using a wood, string, and tape measure method. Always remembering the old adage "If it ain't broke don't fix it" of course.
