I have a 2006 LX150. Turn on key and nothing lights up. I have check the battery (which I have on a battery tender) and voltage is 12.87. I checked the fuses by the battery and the ones by the horn. All good. I have inspected the wiring visually and see no issues. Scooter is always garaged. My feeling is that there is no battery power going anywhere. Where should I start the troubleshooting??? Thanks in advance.

The most likely scenario (after fuses, which you've checked) is that the ignition switch has failed. This is not uncommon!

With the -ve probe of the voltmeter firmly fixed and connected to the frame somewhere, test the voltages at the battery, the main fuse, and then at the switch.

OK! I will try what you suggest. I'm wondering how difficult it is going to be to remove and replace the switch........

It's just behind the fuses under the horn cover. To remove it (if necessary) there's a wire spring clip that holds in in place at the back of the key barrel mechanism.

Very cheap to replace, and worth having a spare!

Do you mean when you turn the switch on but the engine isn't running?

JimC --THANK YOU for the direction and manual page. This really helps me. I'm going to order the new ignition switch later today.

Pinkscooter -- Yes. Turn the switch to "on" and I have no lights on the dashboard (like usual). Of course, the scooter won't start as a result and hasn't been running. Normally i would turn the ignition switch to "on" and the dashboard lights come on. As a result, the starter doesn't turn and everything is dead.

Update. Got the new ignition switch and figured out how to replace it. Still have no dashboard lights which to me suggests that I still have an electrical problem. Duh. Soooo, for those of you who have traveled this road before, what should I do next? Thanks in advance!

Similar problem
I have a GTS 250ie and no lights. I can crank my engine. But no ignition lights. I'll keep messing with things, but if I find something interesting I will post back to here and let you know...

Are the battery connections sound? Are you getting voltage at the new ignition switch?

As jimc described, you will have most success troubleshooting for signal with a multimeter. Unfortunately, it's hard to diagnose an electrical issue remotely, which is why there have been few replies so far.

The good news is that if you take your time and follow the wiring diagram along, you should be able to trace the issue. Or maybe you will get lucky and find the battery terminal connector has come off!

I appreciate the patience. Finally have some time today to go out and chase this problem. I am new to scooters but have some experience with cars and wiring. Electric problems are the real boogymen of vehicles. Crying or Very sad emoticon

Does 2006 have immobilizer and two keys?

Does any one have a decent copy of the wiring diagram. The one I have gets all pixelated if I expand it to read it.

NOTALLOWED

This is a 'best guess' diagram:

UPDATE! Problem solved. Would you believe it was the battery all along? Yep. Hooked up new battery, turn switch, dashboard lights come up, engine turns over and fires up. I had checked the battery at 12.5V but I guess it didn't have enough amps to turn the motor. Lesson learned. The hard way as usual. Thanks to all who replied along the way! Scooter emoticon

Good for you!

But the battery would have to be pretty dead to not even have dash lights come on? Could it have been a bad connection that got sorted out when you changed the battery?

Regardless, I am glad it's sorted out now.

It could have been a bad connection internal to the battery - I've met that a couple of times. If there's a high resistance inside the battery then the volts will read fine when all is off, but will drop to near zero when the ignition is on..

Which is why I asked for those voltage readings a month ago...
