Finally.... after a long delay, and a few false starts (i.e. target hotels being totally booked), we're ready to announce!

The weekend will be August 23-25. Base hotel will be Quality Inn, Reedsburg, WI. Rates are $96 plus tax, room block is under Wisconscoot and rooms will be held until end of July. Phone: 608-524-8535.

Timing will be as in previous years- Meet for lunch at noon on Friday, ride departs around 1 pm. Saturday ride will being around 10 am, lunch on the road, and back late afternoon. Sunday morning short ride for those interested, depart for home.

Routes, and more details to follow.

N.B.: It is assumed that you are at least an intermediate level rider. Group riding can be very challenging for beginners, and it is not the proper setting for learning to be comfortable with your PTW. Our routes can be challenging, and riding can be brisk and difficult at times. We don't routinely do pre-rides, so surprises are possible.

Thank you, Dave, for working around my busy scooting schedule.

I plan to come.

I hope Sam can join me, but I will probably come anyway.

Linda and I are working our plans out, it seems you picked a weekend that will work great for us. We would like to join you again this year. Hopefully I wont blow a drive belt and can do the Saturday ride instead of following in the pickup truck. I need to get out on my scooter more this year, Since I bought the motorcycle I hardly ever ride the scooter. The Wisconscoot we attended two years ago was a great time, and we have been looking forward to being able to do another.

Good to have you back. Yeah, that wasn't a great year....nice to have a backup vehicle and all, but plan A is always best.

Age vs bike weight vs ride choice...
Yell, for me at my advancing years I find that the smaller and much more "flickable" machines get ridden more than my heavier bikes. I do have a '53 Zundapp motorcycle which is heavy for me but to keep it I attached a sidecar and life is easier again. Plus my wife wants to ride again in the sidecar after absent from biking for 51 years!!

Zundapp 1953 KS 601 Sport...
German, opposed twin, quite similar to BMW of those years. The sidecar keeps me riding a heavier bike. We have several sidecar rigs in our local Antique Club.

SW Wisconsin a Two Wheeled Paradise
Gussy,

Dave has scheduled most of the annual Wisconscoot Rides in SW Wisconsin
because the area is beautiful. Reminds me of Austrian valleys without the mountains.

Short Story: The glaciers that flattened most of the Upper Midwest in the USA (made great farm land) missed SW Wisconsin. The area is called the Driftless Region. Essentially, a million years of heavy snow melt off carved out one towering bluff and green valley after another.

Current Times: Most all of the roads that twist around these valley and bluff formations are paved due to the strong Dairy Industry that dominated the State of Wisconsin. Hey, gotta have trucks on good roads to pick up all the milk to make cheese. Wisconsin residents are called cheese heads.

Result: Heaven for motorcycle and scooter riders.

That is the geological report for today,

Bob Copeland

Wisconscoot???

No! It is upstate New York between Cooperstown and Ithaca today.

Made me think about the great rides we have had in southern Wisconsin.

Looking forward to Wisconscoot 2019.

Yes, it does have a familiar look to it.

We've got to dry out here a bit, but by the time August rolls around, should be great!

Nah, not enough gravel...

I'm planning on being there and camping again, though I did decide to invest in a larger tent that I think is big enough to have a "garage" for parking my bike

And I'm going to have to get a hold of my cousin who lives in Baraboo to see if I can stop by and see his family while I'm so close...

Seriously, though, don't forget to take a look at Dale's website, if you're looking for some already curated roads/routes:

https://driftlessroadadventures.com/

It looks like he's got a few blocks on the map to the west and south of the Dells, so those might be just what you're looking for...

Thanks for the reminder Mark. I do have things pretty much outlined, but like to recheck and reconsider. Did drive a bit of what I believe is the route last weekend. Not a stone of gravel to be seen....so 25% certain we're good.

No official registration, but do appreciate advance notice. Hotel holds rooms up to one month before. This is a small event, but I need to plan venues for meals, etc. Nice to have my head around total numbers.

I've had thoughts of capping attendance, but haven't yet...

If you're seriously thinking of coming, please keep me posted, so I have at least a vague idea.

You're welcome to join us. It is a good way to meet other riders. I'm assuming you're a moderate level or above rider? Also, if you haven't ridden in a group, it's a bit of a different experience. I'll be sharing information about it before the ride for newbies to help out. One of the thoughts I'd had after dealing with some iffy group riders is that you're riding as part of a group, not merely riding with a group.

I just came upon this ride via a Google Calendar link someone posted in Adventure Riders, and I couldn't be more surprised! This year's route is based in my hometown and about 10 miles from my house! I'd love to join you all if my weekend stays open, and if I can't, maybe my wife would join with her Vespa instead (unsure if we can find someone to watch our son for the entire weekend so we both can ride).

Welcome to the area! A GREAT section of the state to ride with great country roads. I've finally gotten up to a scooter that can ride highway speeds more easily and comfortably, so I'm hoping to do a bit of longer rides when I get the time.

One piece of info for that weekend in Reedsburg: they're having their annual Living History Rendezvous at the Pioneer Log Museum about 2 miles east of town that exact same weekend. People come, dress, camp, and live in late 1800s period gear at the site for the weekend, and guests and come and visit and see the encampment all weekend while they're there. It's a pretty cool even they started just a couple years ago.

Hi, dbeth,

Glad you found us! There's another rider with a summer home in town as well, so for the first time we've got some locals!

Thanks for the rendezvous info...always nice to have some diversions. We don't have any formal rides on Sunday, so for those who want to hang around a bit, something to do!

Just a reminder to everyone, it's a great help planning to have a head count of everyone. Want to be sure we can accommodate everyone at meals, and as it's possible that there are changes, everyone can be notified. If you don't have my number, pm me....

Roll call
Hi everyone,

It's only three...yes, three weeks until the annual Wisconscoot. Routes are pretty much finalized, a tiny bit of tweaking, but otherwise we're good to go.
I would appreciate hearing from everyone planning on joining us. Having contact information is useful as well, because last minute changes such as times and locations will likely NOT be announced on MV.

Riding:
One again, we assume you are at least an intermediate rider, and have had experience with group riding. Following group riding guidelines is the best way to assure a good experience for everyone. Your enjoyment shouldn't come at the expense of other riders.

The following link is worth reviewing:

https://msf-usa.org/downloads/group_ride.pdf

At the moment, I'm expecting:

JKJ-FZ6
gitder
Madison Sully
Bill Leuthold
Sam Leuthold
Russ Bees
CubsKing
Bob Copeland
Werner
Bob Wilbrandt
wmak

If you're not on the list, please confirm, conversely, if your plans change, let me know as well. Greenspam, tomdolan, dbeth and Luckyscroller....still in?

Got some camping info from Bob Wilbrandt, and can get that to you if you pm me.

I'll be posting routes prior to the ride. Will be using Ride With GPS, so if you're all teched up, I'll post those links as well.

I'm still hoping to make it, but that's our physical inventory week at work, so I might not be able to get Friday off Crying or Very sad emoticon

On an unrelated note, thinking about this trip reminded me that I should finally get around to updating my states ridden map from my trip in June...
5 more states down, only 9 left...

By the way, there's been suggestions in the past about breaking up the group into faster and slower riders. It's never been done, but in case someone thinks it's a great idea and wants to lead, I think it's very doable, if you have a phone to navigate with (best yet with Bluetooth). I can get you the route on Ride With GPS and Bob's your uncle! Let me know in advance because it's not going to work as a last minute.

Well, you will need enough people to ride in that group too.... Nerd emoticon
