I recently got a Vespa LX 150 IE, and I don't have the keys. Where can I find a key for this model? I don't want to go to a dealership, saying that I am NOT the original owner.

Your problem is way bigger than just needing a key. The Vespa key has an RFID chip. You can have a key the turns the ignition "on" but if that RFID chip isn't programmed into the ECU, you are going no where. In order to program a new key into the ECU you need the original master key that came with the scooter. AF1 Racing has a service that will wipe your ECU clean and then you can get a new master key and use that to program other keys.

You need much more than a key. That Vespa has an electronic immobilizer device which is connected to the ignition and ECU. AF1 can help you with new parts and reprogramming, but that is not inexpensive.

I don't have ANY keys, remind you. I don't know why, but I just don't have anything either than the Vespa itself.
I know nothing about motorcycles, so I have no idea what you guys are saying... |

If you are the legitimate owner with paperwork to prove it, any Vespa dealer or shop that works on Vespas should be able to help you with your big problem.

Umm, if you don't want to go to a dealer, and no nothing about "motorcycles," you're kinda SOL, IMHO.
Not sure how or why one would want to procure a vehicle without keys, but that's water over the dam. |

I bought a number of wrecked cars w/o as key because I built them and crooked wrecker drivers or salvage yard people stole them and sold them to make money off them selling on ebay, etc.. This thread raises red flags? I get buying it but if the OP cannot read the peoples post where their trying to help them, where does this go? |

Yeah, nothing suspicious about this thread and the OP.
He has been given the information necessary regarding contacting a dealer - if he "doesn't want to do that" and "doesn't know anything about motorcycles" (and apparently Vespas), he may just have to fence it. No dealer is going to take on this situation without more information. |

I am going to say that not having any key to a modern Vespa or anything that requires a chipped, programmed KEY is 'interesting' to say the least. The parts to resolve this are costly, and the labor, if you cannot do it yourself is costly.
But I will give good references/feedback for AF1 down in Austin TX, fast, dependable and in less than 1 week I had my original key and my cloned key back, both work on my Vespa and the cost was far less than what could have been my costs IF I lost that only key. I don't think anyone here has a magic wand for that no key problem and I am glad of that, no telling who would be running around with my scooter if it was that easy to get around that chipped key 'thing' I actually like and appreciate. |

vehicles change hands all the time, why would you be worried about not being the original owner? keys get lost and all that so who cares? and it's not like they can take the vin and clone one off for you right then and there.
granted, i can understand your apprehension of thinking that the dealer is gonna gouge you on getting a new key (wrong) but i get it. so it's all good. however in this situation, a dealer may just be your best recourse-- depending where you are. now... if you came by this under... nefarious terms, then yeah... okay. wrong place to ask. and uh... good luck with getting that sorted? so basically, you're gonna be out some labor and a fair amount of dough. how much coin really depends on how handy and wily you are. at the end of the day you could be out $$ or you could be out $$$ it just really depends on what your level of mechanical ability is; or what the skill set of the repair shop of your choice happens to be. also, as an independent mechanic, i'll be the first to say that sometimes the dealer is the the best course of action on specific jobs. and yeah, if you rolled into my joint with a bike and no keys i'd be asking for proof of ownership before i even write up a work order for that mess. good luck! -g

Title? Often people look at scooters as toys, bicycles, not as motor vehicles which must be registered and titled. No title? No plate, no keys! Without title from owner how do you know he was the legal owner? Stolen?
