Its funny that this comes up now. I am not a Johnny Cash fan - i do not dislike his stuff, its just not stuff I listen to typically. My wife, son and I spent a year living in Monza italy about a year ago. I was felling nostalgic fo Monza since watching the italian grand prix the other day so I did a Youtube seach for "Monza Citta" and found this:

I be damned if I didn't find practically in tears... i miss living there so much and his cover of that song just struck a chord with me.

I'm a huge Cash fan. I have so many favorites it's hard to choose. One of my faves is the 16 Disc set where he reads the New Testament of the Bible in the New King James Version. He recorded in the 90's sometime, so much of the weathered voice is in the readings.

But the songs...so many. I dig pretty hard on "Wish I Was Crazy Again". I'll probably only appreciate it more and more as I get older.

Can't wait to jam in Heaven with em, or at least go fishin'.

Probably because it's the only Johnny Cash song I know how to play. Yes my ska band Monkey played (Maybe still plays it?!) but we did it pretty straight up as a trio (Guitar, bass, drums).

The crowd used to go absolutely apeshit when we played it.

Now I LIVE near Folsom Prison...and I NEVER hear this tune played?!

I think Live at Folsom Prison is probably one of his best records of his incredible catalog. Most of his "hits" and just the general Johnny attitude on that record.

I used to HATE anything country but after hearing Live at Folsom Prison a few hundred times in the tour van, I got won over. Shitty music is just that, no matter the style, when it's executed well by a talented musician...I like anything! There's a rare few in country that can top Johnny Cash. I'm hard pressed to tell you whom since Johnny's my favorite in that style.

I normally hate cover tunes, but Social Distortion does make a credible effort here. The live version is even more amazing.

"When the man comes around" is the best song ever, I love Johnny Cash in an unatural way.

"Ring of Fire" but with the chorus I heard a comedian sing,

"Love, is a burning thing, and it must be love cause my things on fire"

There are way too many great songs of his to pick just one favorite. One that I haven't seen posted that I really like is Tennessee Flat Top Box!

i would have to go with "man in black" or "wanted man" but there are too many to choice from.
