GT's don't come with sidestands as do any other modern Vespa. Aftermarket ones are available, but the consensus is to not use them because they use springs under tension.

I had one on my ET when I got it.
Took it off after it fell. A little wind, a bump, and the stand pops up, bike falls over. |

+1
Side stands are lame on these modern Vespas of ours. They make our bikes fall down, then we have to read through all the touch up paint threads again. |

They are not stock on US models because the DOT requires that kick stands be linked with a kill switch. |

Once you understand the weaknesses of a Vespa sidestand, you'll find applications where you can safely and conveniently use it, and others where you better don't.
I wouldn't want to give up mine. |

I had a side stand on my bike but I felt myself sraping metal in turns so I removed it. The side stand just never gave me a warm fuzzy feeling when I left the bike? I had it on for about 3 months before I removed it.

side stands
I don't get the problem with side stands. You always here that "it's not if but when" that the stand will fail and the scoot goes over. If pilots had that attitude their would be know such thing as a retired pilot. You just have to be aware of what happens when you don't set the stand properly. When the side stand is deployed kick it foward from the rear and turn the handle bars all the way to the left and make sure the weight of the scooter is on the stand. Simple procedure. Get in the habit. Their are some situations where the center stand has to used of course. Use common sence.
