Seems pretty logical to me. Though I can't speak because I've already fallen twice. Both times when I was barely even moving.
Greasy: how much is it going to cost me to get my tires changed? |

Fear
I know this guy a really great rider. The first rain he was riding over a crosswalk and had both his tires on one of those big white painted strips. Both of his tires on his scooter just slipped out from under him.
So don't have fear, Just be carefull. fear stops you from making good choices and going with the flow and avoiding accidents. Hey and if you brake your leg you can always spend your days on here. it's way better than T.V. Lucky~ swoosh wrote: Wow, I wasn't expecting all these responses! I'd like to inform you that I know a bit more about Vespas than you think (key word: a bit). Oil bubble? Cute way to put it! And thank you all for the great resources and tips, I'm going to need to buy some rain gear pretty soon.. Can't wait to start riding in the rain. What's it like anyways, should I be frightened? |

Looking forward to that broken leg. Ohhh yes. I can't wait for that first ride in the rain, just to experience it. I'll be very careful on those painted ground sign things. Even when dry they're pretty slippery.

Since you have a full face helmet riding in the rain is not all bad, if you're an idiot, like me, you wear no helmet and the rain hurts like a mother effer.

What's the name of the movie where Nicole Kidman drives the Orange Vespa that I posted and what type of Vespa is it? Hint, she co-stars with Sean Penn...

Where I live when it rains it pours, it is beacause of this rainfall plus the mountains that we generate most of the electricity from water falls and river dams.
I was venturing into a 3 hour ride and all of the sudden the skies opened. I was in the middle of tropical rain fall in the Pacific Ocean side of the mountains without rain gear. The Vespa fished tailed a bit it made me feel insecure above 30 Kph. I had to reduce speed almost in half, from doing 60 kph to above 30 kph. Handling the curves is a bit tricky and I was the one leaning not the bike, to keep it as upright and perpendicular as possible to avoid a spill. The cars on the rear where condescending and didn't pressure much, plus there was some space. This was a mountain road on Easter but the line of cars was starting to mount. Then I started to shiver from the wind chill, after all I was soaked and this shivering transfered somewhat to the steering. But the Gods help the novice Vespa rider. When starting to go downhill I saw an accident that blocked the road on both directions. I was able to pass, later down the road there was no more rainfall and the weather helped me dry my clothes a bit. The lesson is never leave home without proper raingear. And if possible wait for the rain to go, have some chocolate, read a book. It was fun, but I wouldn't like to deal with the row of cars behind me that couldn't pass, for whatever reason they had. Beware of windchill factor and getting cold. I didn't catch a cold by the way but I took a hot shower, got into my PJ's, etc. I have to be honest with you, I felt like the happy kid I used to be that day! BTW if you have fallen twice you might consider getting back to that sexy black full face helmet that you had. it's safer. I don't use one, however, it will be my next purchase: "a helmet can only protect what it covers." Enjoy your Vespa! |

Enough of the rain talk already!
Here in Seattle we are about to plunge into two or three months of non-stop rain, drizzle and generally overcast days of hell. Let's talk about riding on a sunny breeze with the palms swaying in the foreground! |

Hello all, back from work, crap day by the way.
rbruce63: All that was written very well, like a short story of days to expect in my near future. Bravo! Encore! pdxvespa: Thanks much for all of that, it's always nice to read up on safety tips.. I'm beginning to regret getting rid of that full face, and really really considering buying one. Hmmm especially in the city of angels, everything's so nuts.. |

I love riding in the rain. Get a good rain suit, a full face helmet and a windscreen. A lot of times people in cars laugh and point at me, thinking I'm miserable, but the jokes on them. I love the sound of the rain on the helmet. I love a downpour apparently soaking me, but I'm in reality completely dry in my little cocoon. (except for my hands, I've got to get some waterproof gloves)
