Hi,

I have a LX50 2 stroke and I need to add some more oil ( the one mixes itself with the petrol ).
I was wondering is best to stick with the same oil as in brand or does it not matter so much. And also what type of oil should I buy? (living in the uk where can i get this type of oil) coz i have been to different scooter scoot er and every shop (not necessary vespa dealers) seems to have different kind of brands.

many thanks

I think Motul 710 should do you. Stay away from the Vespa branded 2-stroke oil, it's "shite". I'm hoping my phony british accent came through on that one.

i like motul 710 for most stock applications, and the 800 for anything high performance.

torco, golden spectre, silkolene and ipone are all really good too. belray SI7 is a good economy oil that is suitable for injection use.

avoid any castor based oils or anything that is made specifically for pre-mix.

best,
-greasy

Just curious why Vespa oil is not any good. It is what Vespa sells to be used in new scooters protected by their warranty. Seems to contradict logic.

I use Ipone strawberry scented 2 stroke oil. It's much nicer for the person who has to ride behind you!

I've been using castrol synthetic 2 stroke oil since my PX150 was new. Now at 10,000 miles the service tech at the dealer says its in great shape. Very clean cylinder and piston.

I've used the Vespa 2-stroke oil on my vintage when I was in a pinch. Fouled my plug right away. Same thing happens when you put it into the ET2. People that ride 2-strokes and work at the dealerships will tell you to stay away from it.

Back in '66 when I had my 150, I used the Vespa oil that came in little plastic pouches. One pouch per fill up of gas. I never had a problem with plug fouling or performance issues. Maybe they used a different oil back then.
