Maybe it is just me but I cannot view videos on this forum without starting another browser.

May we have a gentleman's agreement that posters include URL link to videos in their posts in addition to the embedded link.

If you quote the message you can get the youtube code, chuck it into google and you'll find it.

But yeah, start another browser

It's so much less total effort expended if one person (the OP) pastes the link twice - once without [ URL ] links, and once with - than for hundreds of others to have to quote the OP and then do their own cut'n'paste or to have to wait gawd knows how long for a new browser to open. Frankly, most Chrome users just won't bother, which is a shame.

One assumes an OP wants as many MV members as possible to watch their posted video, so why they can't be arsed to paste the link between [ URL ] tags is a mystery.

Plus it's just good manners really.

It might be easier for many if there was a simple sticky tutorial on how to do this. Or maybe update FAQ on how to do it so we can send link less technology oriented members when they do not do it.

i remember Youtube.com doing an expansion in a data center I worked in around 2006, so just when they started growing into what they are today they were a Data Center Neighbor.

I visit other forums too... I'll guess 50% of the time, max, I do remember this thing of "douple posting" the link or just using the URL.

... each to his own and all that, but I'll have to ask what's wrong with using the Firefox for browsing? It's pretty neutral ground and has great compatibility with many other software....I don't use any Apple stuff myself anymore, but at least Firefox promotes to be compatible with those too.

I am a Chrome user, all my bookmarks are set up and ready to click. And I just like the chrome browser.

Likewise. I would resent being 'forced' to use a different browser just for MV.

Ideally Jess would modify the MV code again - but that ain't going to happen.

Jess keeps the place alive, that's good enough for me. Really it's up to the OP if they want to post a Chrome friendly link just like it's up to the user whether they use Chrome or not. I run with at least 4 browsers on all my systems and switch between them pretty regularly. I use password management software with a browser plugin which does make things easier.

I think it is a nice thing for the OP to do when posting a vid and I'll try to remember to do it myself. But on the other side of the argument it's really not hard to download and use another browser for MV so you know all the vids will work.

If Jess would just give my Ramanion Tech Nija's access, they could get that fixed in no time for just a few bucks

Well they did get hired after they took over the network and we had to pay to get access back That was in 2002.
We figured they were really good because our network was supposedly really locked down, so we thought 17 years later one only is still with us.

Two went back to hacking because legit work wasn't exiting
I am still in contact with most of them Figured I am safer if I am keep them as close friends

Upgrading this site is something I'm sure I could do or one of my guys. It's just a BBS, there is not a lot to it. However Jess doesn't care, let's face it people. I'm very glad he cares enough to keep the lights on so let's be thankful for that. IF the code base became so old that it really just did not work anymore I do think he would do something about it. Chrome users not being able to view YouTube links I highly doubt is up there in his list of priorities.

Very modified by Jess BBS. He has done some major tweeking from what i understand.
He could not do updates without losing old posts, so he had to do blending of versions I think.

There is always Brave as well but also based on Chromium...

It's a question of courtesy. I started doing it a bit ago when it was documented that Chrome is stupid. I feel like reminders are needed on every video post.

I'll add - apparently Chrome is used by 78% of internet users. Now I know this may not be the percentage for MV members, but I bet it's the majority browser by quite some way.

That percentage is a bit high and I don't buy it. I can see it being the most common browser though and from the stats I can see it is. I agree we should post Chrome friendly links however I am often a Chrome user but just don't use it for MV. It's pretty easy to open another browser, not much effort at all.

Yes, I might have stumbled on an over-estimate there. Nearly all measures state over 60% though.

I trust Wikipedia about as much as I trust Flint Michigan tap water but that graph seems about right from what I know.


Sorry about the dig on the Wikipedia comment and I DO think it's a great source of info. However due to the nature of how it is edited it can also be so very wrong. At least until the next edit.
