I'm looking at getting a tire mounting machine to do my own tubeless tires instead of paying the local atv shop to do it. I have a mechanic friend with one of these old industrial car tire mounting machines that is powered by air compressor.

He refuses to mount my tires because even if he could get the machine to hold the rim, it would scratch the rims. I will not be going that route unless something came up on craigslist for dirt cheap, but am thinking of getting a cheap harbor freight tire mounting machine to start. Unless someone suggests a better alternative? I am wondering for those of you who have a tire mounting machine either powered or manual, what machine are you using? And if you are using a machine and not just tire irons, how did you solve for the lack of hub to mount the rim onto the machine? I'm thinking of possibly cutting a piece of metal to the right width, then drilling holes for the machine center hub and some holes for the rim studs to get the rims held onto the machine.

I use cutdown harbor freight tire irons. I also use a cut piece of wood as shown in the video below. They're like $5 each -- I use two. Will you scratch your rims -- probably (I do). But you can do it yourself. Which is most of the point of scooters to me.

I have an old Coats 4040 tire changer. No way would it ever be able to mount any sort of moto tire on a rim.

Not sure that it's any help, but I did see the other day on FB, there was a guy who had adapted an old rear hub to fit on to his dynamic balancing machine. Basically just need a big hole cut in the centre.
I've never actually seen a tyre mounting machine in action, but could this system be used?

The guy who does mine has a motorcycle tire machine - not sure if it is specific. There are protectors on the machine for the rim. He uses the machine only to turn the rim - the rest is copious lube and manual tools (also protected). Doesn't mark the SIP tubeless rims. Although did dent (tiny) one by dropping the pressure gauge on it...
