Modern Vespa

Hi,
The right mirror on my Vespa came off and the bolt has sheared. I bought an extractor tool to try and remove it but not having much luck. You use one side of the extractor tool to make a hole and remove burrs, and then flip the bit over in the drill to extract it. I've been using both sides of the tool anti-clockwise (which I think is correct). I've been a bit off centre drilling and now worried I might be getting close to damaging the thread (see attached photo). Can I get a new housing for the mirror somewhere? Should I continue trying to remove or is it time for the garage?

Yes, you can get a new housing. I have found with that particular extraction that a set of counterclockwise bits, from the smallest, gradually larger, will usually break it free at some point and it will spin up on it's own. If you do destroy the threads, it's an easy place to put a helicoil or other thread insert.

You could buy a Heli-coil M8x1.25 metric and use your mirror.
