I was riding in heavy rain for about 20 minutes today. When I later opened by top box, I was very surprised to see some water in there!

It's hard to tell, but from the drips inside the box I think water trickled in at the clamshell seam towards the front left of bike. I guess the gasket isn't sealing properly. Has anyone had this problem before? I searched on MV, but this doesn't seem to be a common problem.

Does anyone know if the gasket is replaceable? The gasket does not appear to be cracked or split. But it's over 10 years old, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's hardened and not sealing great anymore.

Demand your money back!

If for some reason that fails then search for adhesive gasket strip on ebay etc. Saying that though, I don't think either of the top boxes I have have any sort of gasket.

The GIVI has a gasket, I just checked mine.

Might try buying some silicone Paste, get some on a rag and wipe the gasket down.

The OEM Vespa top box I had on my 2007 LX150 had a tubular gasket in the clam shell joint.

Both our Givi and Piaggio OEM cases have a gasket. I had to reattach one of them.

Thanks all. Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have an OEM Vespa topcase.

I will look at the gasket more carefully. It doesn't seem anyone's had to replace one before. Or had leaking problems in their topcase.

Try silicone paste, it will most likely stop the leaking in hard rain.
Great for the door and trunk seals on cars.

See if you can find o-ring grease. Lots on amazon

But you should also make sure the topcase isn't twisted preventing the top and bottom from mating properly.

Wouldn't o-ring grease be silicone? Don't want a petroleum product, I know that.

I think so. Is that the same as silicon paste? The product I use is a clear grease with vaseline jelly consistency.

Yikes! Why is the stuff so expensive? I'm sure a tube will last years, but still seems steep at like $50 (CAD) for 8 Oz. The price of dry gear, I guess.
