1965 Vespa 180SS

When Sofia arrived she didn't have either the speedo cable or the front brake cable in place. I would really appreciate it if anyone has a photo or photos of the cables at both the bottom and the top of the steering column, preferably without the mudguard (fender) in place. They don't need to be connected up to their respective ends, I'm really just looking to see how they come down and out of the column. I have also posted this in the Project Reports forum. Thanks in anticipation.

My parts book doesn't include your model, and I tried to find the right exploded diagram for you on the SIP site but I couldn't. On my Rally, there is a hole in the fork near the lower end. The speedo cable goes through there. The brake cable comes out the very bottom of the fork tube. Hope that helps.

You went where I did, the SIP site and I also hit Scooterhelp, but neither helped. There are 2 holes reasonably well up the fork and I suspect that the top one is meant for the speedo cable and the lower one for the brake cable. I am looking for support for my theory.

Oh yeah. Your fork is a little different from mine. The speedo cable is thicker than the brake cable, so I think you're exactly right.

one issue I encountered when reassembly was I did not clean out the holes or the new housings were larger at least the speedo housing would not fit. It's been a while so my memory is bad but in retrospect I would have test fitted the housing(s) and made sure all was good because I was forced to use the 50 year old original cracked speedo housing covered with two tone spiral which is kinda cool but still...

I would think a Dremel with a grinding wheel would have been able to open the hole up a bit more if it was required.

Probably can't remember now think the fork was already in the frame which complicated a simple task and a fender in the work space...
