It sounds cliche however Max truly has a "million dollar smile."

What a great man who spent his time with us.

A few years ago, I made a little image for him, which he liked and wanted to use as his avatar. Cool conversations.

It makes one wonder how we got from "conscious and eating, optimistic for his recovery" to infection spread to his organs and waiting for his death.

Medical error or picked up a bug in the hospital come to mind.

once you hit 100% the oldest is automatically deleted once the next one comes in. So do a proper purge and get rid of the not needed ones.

Try printing the messages as PDFs and save them to your hard drive. You can also us the snip it tool to capture and save for posterity.

This is terrible news. I never met Max in person, but exchanges with him here on this forum were usually informative and or entertaining.

This is yet another big loss for our little community here.

Any update on Max?

We all were given a ticket for this ride called life without any promise of how long it would last or how it might end.

That good people leave us too soon is certainly sad. But not nearly so sad as the thought of not enjoying the ride as thoroughly as possible.

Max rode life like he stole it. He's an inspiration to me at times when I might be tempted to take the safe, easy or conventional route.

I called the hospital and they couldn't give me any more information other than that he is still a patient there.

Let's hope.

Not sure how things stand, but Max is still very much in my thoughts.

I asked the hospital to call me if his condition changed significantly but they are busy people and the request, apparently got lost. I felt I had waited long enough so I called and he is no longer a patient in the hospital. Since I am not a family member they couldn't tell me anything more.

I can go to his house and see if I can learn anything there.

I think that would be appreciated, thanks.

Afraid I know what "no longer a patient" means.

Could mean he was transferred to a care facility, nursing home, hospice.

Hard to track down a person if you don't know their full name and other details. Someone who knows Max should be able to search the obits to exclude that sad outcome.

I hope he is still with us.

That's what I was hoping.

I went to his house yesterday and again today but no one answered the door. The blinds were drawn so I could not see if he, or anyone was living there.

We all read so many novels and watch so many movies where the star dies surrounded by friends and family; all leaning in close to hear and appreciate our last words, that it has conditioned us to be terrified of passing alone and unnoticed. And it makes us terribly sad at the prospect of living or dying in obscurity.

For that reason I wish we could know what has become of our friend Max... in hopes that we could be assured that he was comforted, loved and made to feel special towards the end.

It would comfort us that even if he may have been a supporting character in our lives, that at the end he feels/felt like the star of his own show.

We may never know. And that frightens and saddens me; conditioned as I am to the film and storybook endings.

But in case Max went (or is going), out another way, I'll take comfort from a fragment of a Thomas Gray poem (called 'Elegy written in a country Churchyard'): I'd like to think that our very being; our birth, life and death, are important to the world in some special way... even if it seems to pass out of sight like a desert flower.

Perhaps we only find out what it was all about on the other side.

I don't understand how I missed this post. This is terrible news. And not actually knowing what has happened to Max is blowing my mind! Just terrible news...

I checked his facebook page but he has not posted since July.

"no longer a patient" is pretty unambiguous knowing his previous condition.

If he has sadly died then it should be a matter of public record.

Perhaps someone local can check with the local registrar (or whatever the job title might be)?

I'm blanking or on Max's last name and exactly which city in Kansas he lives in. Jim is right if he's passed out should be public record.
