Do you think the GTS will have a lot more power with the new motor in 2020?
Would it be worth to upgrade my 2018 Gts?
Thanks Older Guy

All the reports I've heard are saying the HPE engines have a noticeable power increase over previous models. Official figures are 12% in power output and 18% increase in torque. Why not arrange a test ride to see if that's worth upgrading to?

When dyno tested back to back, the HPE had slightly more power than the previous model but the restrictor kicked in earlier cutting a fair chunk off the top speed.

Sure, go test ride an HPE somewhere and see. I'm betting, however, that you won't notice a very dramatic difference. It is basically the same engine after all.

Yup. If you want more power it's a better bet to put a Malossi kit on your current scoot.

My 2007 Vespa GTS250 is faster than my 2012 Ural. Hell, my 125cc is faster than my Ural.

I rode a2019 and 2020 back to back and thought the 2020 felt stronger accelerating from 50-65 mph.

Honestly though if I owned a 2018 I don't think the increased power would justify the extra maybe $3000 to trade up.

My 2020 rev limiter kicks in at 82 (indicated) mph, 75 true mph. Isn't that the same as the older bikes?

Think previous models can do true speed of 82mph

Yup the aren't built for speed. The newer models are a pretty good upgrade though. They have almost entered the modern age.

Without some serious modifications I can't imagine wanting my Vespa GTS250 to go any faster than it already does. At 75mph it's approaching a stability concern for me because of how light it is. If it could cruise at 85mph that would be disconcerting.

And it accelerates fine already.

What's the attraction of a faster Vespa in its current structural form rather than considering something built around a more powerful engine?

Only the inevitable human urge to squeeze a little more power, or a little more speed, out of every vehicle ever built. Having said that, I'm with you. Given the size, weight, suspension, wheels, and brakes of a current GTS - it probably has all the power and speed it needs.

AF1 did a comparison to 2019. The 2020 was definitely faster, though only you can answer if it's enough to warrant the upgrade

Losing a little top speed on the new ones is a bummer. But as already mentioned, if you plan to spend loads of time at 80 mph, maybe a Vespa isn't the best choice.

The new one is quicker everywhere in terms of roll-on, which is where it counts around town.
